Seria difícil existir uma coletânea como esta algum tempo atrás. “Desde que abrimos o selo, a gente começou a receber muito material, mas muitas eram coisas que não batiam como gostaríamos”, conta o DJ e produtor Zegon, metade do duo Tropkillaz e mente por trás do selo Buuum Trax.

“De uns seis meses pra cá chegamos em um ponto em que a qualidade das produções subiu muito”. Disso, surgiu esta seleção de faixas de artistas que fazem parte de um dos contigentes mais vibrantes da música brasileira atual: a cena bass. O contigente de novos produtores é catapultado por festas que pipocam de norte a sul do país. Entre as mais conhecidas, estão a Wobble e Heavy Baile (Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo), Perde a Linha (Brasília), Red Room (Vitória), Metanol (São Paulo) e Creme de La Creme (Porto Alegre)It's a Trap (Curitiba). 

Bass music é um termo “guarda-chuva” sob o qual se abrigam gêneros como o dubstep, o trap, o drum’n’bass e suas fusões com estilos que vão do pop ao hip hop, da EDM ao electro, passando por uma infinidade de ritmos regionais, do dancehall jamaicano ao nosso baile funk. Nos últimos anos, a cena bass brasileira tem se expandido e ramificado em sub-cenas que vão dos beats abstratos do future bass ao pancadões periféricos do global bass.  

“Essa molecada tá bem original. Antes eu sentia que o pessoal estava tentando fazer uma coisa genérica. Agora não”, diz Zegon. Para esta primeira coletânea - sim, ele diz que tem intenção de fazer outras! -, ele escolheu um recorte da bass music mais voltada à pista de dança, em fusões com estilos distintos como EDM, dancehall, baile funk, rasteirinha e até samba reggae. “Eu procurei músicas que eu tocaria no meu set”, justifica.  

Aqui temos um belo panorama, com produtores do Rio, São Paulo, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Paraná e Rio Grande do Sul - e até intrusos da Holanda -, numa espécie de cartão de visitas do que a bass music originalmente brasileira tem para mostrar. Tanto que alguns dos nomes apresentados aqui já figuram em sets de gente como Diplo, Flosstradamus e Branko. “Dá pra ser brasileiro sem ser óbvio”, diz Zegon. Essa coletânea é uma prova disso.

Dj Zegon is one of Brazil’s most respected DJ/Producers – with a career spanning over 20 years, and having worked in over 100 records,including collaborations with Kanye West, M.I.A, David Byrne(Talking Heads), George Clinton,a few Wu Tang Members (RZA,Method Man,Ol’Dirty Bastard) amongst others. Former member of the group N.A.S.A, he toured the world with their debut album “The Spirit of Apollo” and performed in festivals such as Coachella.

Laudz is a new cat in the game, however even with only 5 years in the business he’s worked with the likes of like Snoop Dogg,Dr Dre, as well as Brazil’s top hip hop MCs.  The two have also scored movies,comercials and tracks for videogames .

Together, the two have created an intense collection of club bangers,that blends Trap and Bass music with Electro,Hip Hop, and Latin Samples in a unique style.

They first got worldwide attention with their underground hit “Mambo”, a sure shot in any dance-floor, and their recent collab  ”Assets” with Yellow Claw (released by Mad Decent) propelled them even further, placing Tropkillaz’s footprint in the Trap Movement.

Being recently featured on Run The Trap’s Top 10 Trap Duos (tastemaker blog in the scene – run by Complex Music), having their remix of N.A.S.A’s “Hide” on the Top 10 iTunes Electronic Charts (US & UK), official remixes for Major Lazer, and with recent support from superstar DJs like Diplo, Flosstradamus,DJ Snake,Steve Aoki, to name a few, Tropkillaz have proved to be heavy-weight contenders.

With over 50 original tracks and remixes ready, and having performed sold out shows in venues ranging from Brazil to Russia, Tropkillaz is currently finishing a mixtape entitled “Tropical Bass Killers”, as well as their debut EP.  Watch this space.
