About a year ago, we were all sitting around wondering what ever happened to the jackin bassy house sound we were all fond of, and whining about the lack of fun but quality bassline music to smash at the rave. Well, AC Slater went and did something about it.

The title says it all on this new EP from Slates, a return to form from the producer who brought you “Jack Got Jacked,” “Take You” and “Banger." On Return of the Underground, Slater explores the punchy and wobbly bass sounds that he pioneered, pairing them with twists and turns and gunshots influenced by speed garage and those infectious classic UK bass anthems by Switch and Sinden.

Trouble &amp; Bass teamed up with Dutch heavy hitter, Bart B More to bring you one of our finest collaborations to date, The Bass EP. Bart worked with both T&amp;B’s Drop The Lime and AC Slater on two separate tracks and the outcome is this EP delivered straight from the club gods in heaven themselves. The Bass with Drop The Lime is a haunting club jam that samples the best parts of classic rave anthems; it has the piano stabs and the infectious cut up belting diva vocals, but to give it a newer vibe, the boys have added in a stomping distorted kick and shuffling beat to take this tune from the club straight into your brain. Cry Baby with AC Slater starts off with a warbly synth sound that builds up and drops straight into that classic hoover bass sound, and keeps it up to date with shaking toms and snare rolls. This is for fans of the best club music in the world.

Bart B More - The Bass feat. Drop The Lime

In 2002, before T&B even existed, Drop The Lime put together this compilation called 'Nobody Compilate' of various young NYC based artists, and Math Head was the first to contribute and help curate the compilation. Given that both had such punk rock roots, they illegally placed these home printed CD-R copies of the compilation in shops like HMV and Tower Records in sections like IDM, D&B, and Electronica  to reach the right people and it hilariously caught buzz. All that was printed for contact info was  random AOL email address but the excited/confused mails of - " I tried to buy your CD and was told I could just have it for free as it wasn't in the system" were frequent. Soon after, Star Eyes, Zack Shadetek, The Captain and AC Slater joined forces and the same DIY attitude evolved even more, creating Trouble & Bass.
With the recent tragic passing of such a magical, influential, and driven soul, we felt it was important to share the track Math Head had contributed. It's such a strong and honest glimpse into the furiously original production of music he soon progressed into.
You will be missed greatly Ben. We love you.

Zombies For Money are hitting it hard this second half of the year after their huge Ankara Dream EP dropped at the end of August, they are back this fall with 3 brand new hits! This EP began as a 4 song EP that was originally split into two EPs (one being Ankara Dream), and then later Mina! was added rounding this EP out nicely. The main direction of the EP was for each song to use a different music sample from a different country. See if you can figure out which sample is from where!

Like many of Zombies For Money releases, they are heavily influenced by tropical music, kuduro, cumbia, tech house and worldwide bass music. And as always these guys mix all these influences together perfectly to make some of the best club music in the world. Oy Shaba grabs hold of a crazy middle-eastern horn and turns it into a horrifyingly infectious riff. Mina! is maybe the craziest tune on the EP, utilizing the most different samples; Mina! flips a simple guitar diddy, adds another off the wall horn and throws in a few Hey!’s on top of a jackin tropical beat to make a totally mad track! Kayapo VIP of course is the VIP version of Kayapo (unreleased) that has been in the works for quite some time now. The VIP combines a jump-up dutch house synth with exotic drum hits, typical of the Zombies’ curumba style. This is an essential new release for any fan of heavy bass house music! For fans of Congorock, Buraka Som Sistema and Dutch House with a twist.

The first single in 2012 from Little Jinder, ʻKeep on Dreamingʼ is another amazing tune to add to the discography from Little Jinder that hits deep, yet also makes you want to get up to dance and belt out the lyrics with her. After the success of the massive Remix that 12th Planet &amp; Flinch produced for Little Jinderʼs ʻYouth Bloodʼ and their performance of ʻYouth Bloodʼ in 2011 at festivals like Ultra and Coachella, the two collaborated once again to produce this dreamy, and emotional bass-filled radio and club friendly dubstep anthem. Little Jinderʼs voice only adds to the dreamy and emotional elements of the beat, bringing her token airy and passionate voice engulfed by a number of high pitched, dreamy, arpeggiating synths and a steady bass line that nearly shatters your heart. But the bass line isnʼt the only thing that comes close to breaking your heart; when Jinder sings in great lengths that no matter how hard the struggle, youʼve got to ʻKeep on Dreamingʼ for the health of your heart, something everyone can relate to.

For remixes we reached out to a few producers that offered different styles. Deadboy offers his signature two step and future sounds to bring us a remix perfect for the club or home listening. Not touching on the vocals too much, Deadboy compliments them with a beautiful and muffled piano melody accented with a deep bass line and percussion that makes this remix just as emotional as the original. Distal played with the vocals quite a bit, chopping them up, slowing them down, while also adding an appropriate dreamy, synth sounding like it drowned and is currently residing on the floor of the Atlantic ocean. The remix from Starkey shows his aggressive inspiration from grime and dubstep, making this remix tough enough for a sweaty night in the club, and epic enough for a festival. Starkey uses hard hitting horn/alarm sounds transitioning into a darker, and more straight up grime vibe taking you on a rollercoaster ride that keeps the crowd guessing, perfect for the highest point of a DJ set. Lastly, we have a smooth, deep and sexy house remix coming from the UKʼs The Living Graham Bond, that wile being upbeat, keeps the mood somber and groovy. Also included in the package is an acoustic version of ʻKeep On Dreamingʼ that Jinder recorded in her studio to showcase that she still has her electro pop sensibilities and an amazing voice.

Little Jinder - Keep on Dreaming

AC Slater returns to Trouble & Bass with this two song EP including two heavy remixes from Drop The Lime and RacknRuin. You may remember AC’s last stomping T&B release, the Brooklyn anthem “Big Brooklyn Bass” that we released last fall, which was basically AC’s farewell to NYC right before moving to sunny Los Angeles in the beginning of 2012. After lots of time on the road on a 3 week tour in Australia, followed by a tour with Feed Me and then heading straight to Ultra Music Week with T&B crew, AC stopped for a minute to deliver this EP featuring his trade mark sound of party rockin bass-heavy electro house. The title track “Sidewinder”, named after AC’s favorite heavy artillery missile matches the sound he’s bringing perfectly; Long build ups, heavy low end and explosive drops. On “Little Chronic”, AC delves into new territory blending the worlds of heavy bass club music with the ideals of plenty of partygoers; that all everyone wants to do is smoke a little chronic. Why not take care of both? Flick the lighter, inhale, smoke up and get down. Aside from its vocal connotation “Little Chronic” has that electro jump up feel mixed with an insane frantic synth and AC’s classic rave piano stabs and rumbling bass line.
On Remix duties we have T&B head honcho Drop The Lime and UK artist RacknRuin from Black Butter Records. Drop The Lime remixes “Sidewinder” and takes us back to his older style of early T&B recordings ala his “Bricks” days. DTL conjures up a loopin western guitar lick from the dead to bring forth this monster that dips and dives in between classic dubstep kicks and snares mixed with the stuttering bassline from the “Sidewinder” original. A few healthy build ups and bassline change ups and this song is one of the hardest tunes out there! RacknRuin takes a hit from that “Little Chronic” flipping into a UK sound, giving the tune more of a shuffle and a straight up 4x4 bassline riddim complete with air horns and a bassline reminiscent from the niche bassline days.

AC Slater - Little Chronic

At long last, Trouble & Bass is thrilled to release this four-track salvo from Distal, the Boss of the South. Atlanta-based Distal is one of America’s most talented and diverse producers, effortlessly traversing the worlds of juke, dubstep, Southern hip-hop, house and techno. He is both reverent of these genres and relentlessly new, as he’s proved on best-selling releases for Tectonic, Grizzly, Seclusiasis and his own label, Embassy Recordings.

This set has a deep purple palette: roughneck, sometimes melancholy, but with a cheeky sense of humor that’s pure Distal. The title track “Vampire Lightning” is gully peak-time juke. Our little buddy goes late night in the lab, beakers bubbling over with corrosive acid sounds spilling onto the shakers and snares skittering around the floor. This gets backed up by “Cherry Red,” a track as cool as the paint on your tricked-out Cadillac. Miss Cherry is a stripped-down gangster boogie that sounds like 10 zombies in a synchronized Crank Dat Superman.

Following on, a number that perfectly shows Distal’s allegiance to the dirty, dirty. Get your daiquiri ready and roll out to the heroic “Green Lantern,” a dramatic and soaring slice of thug romance with beautiful synths, snare rolls for days and bass for your trunk. NYC ballroom heavyweight MikeQ (Qween Beat) steps in with a remix for all the banjee boys, walking the runway with heavy stabs and driving house beats designed to make you strike a pose or 50.

Distal - Green Lantern (MikeQ Remix)

From off the mean streets of Gotham City, we nabbed young upstart Tony Quattro to deliver two killer tunes that are pure J-J-J-John Blaze. Of course, Tony has already been on his grind: blazing up blogs like Hush House and Gotta Dance Dirty, playing with Bondax, getting love from Boomkat and Mad Decent and all the rest. Schooled in a solid foundation of UK bass and US house flavors, Tony Quattro he keeps it nice for the dancefloor with that proper dose of Big Apple attitude on this double A-side.

“New York Anthem” is a catchy 4/4 workout with serious anthem potential: pumping, sexy lowend, horns hotter than a summer’s day and an arrangement that keeps the dancers going for more. We’ve been playing this one out a lot and we can report it’s not only fierce but super versatile, fitting perfectly no matter what house vibe you’re on.

“Forth and Seek,” a collaboration with fellow NYC producer Doctor Jeep and ballroom house producer/vocalist B. Ames, gets truly nasty (in a good way), pairing bad-ass Baltimore beats with a vogueing vocal feel that is 110% pure booty drop mayhem. This track mixes up house music with hiphop attitude in a way you haven’t seen since Jungle Brothers and Bobby Konders were kings. Please Quattro don’t hurt ’em!!!
