Los Angeles band Dummy employ pummeling guitars and celestial ambience within the same breath, folding a myriad of reference points into their drone-pop style. Influence from '60s melodicism and '90s UK noise pop can be found woven-in with inspiration from spiritual jazz, Japanese new age, and Italian minimalism. Oliver Ackermann of A Place to Bury Strangers twists Wah Together’s “Sayonara” into a brutalist metaphysical pretzel of melody and noise with a new remix out Friday, December 31.
 
“Sayonara (APTBS Remix)” casts Wah Together in a foundation of concrete and wrought iron with unrelenting industrial rhythms and brain-busting time-lapse fuzz guitar. And although Ackermann pushes Wah Together to the brink of collapse in a cacophony of post-punk power electronics, Jaiko Suzuki’s voice emerges unscathed, its sweetly skewed melody intact.
 
Wah Together’s debut LP Let’s Wah Together arrives March 4, 2022—only on Dedstrange.

I think most people have gone through at least one breakup or had a friendship end that pretty much wrecked them for a little while. ‘Ok Ok Ok’ is about going to a party and being hyper-aware of that other person’s presence. It’s about trying to overcome discomfort but in the process overcompensating and being (maybe just a little) petty. It’s about that desire to prove to that other person, and to yourself, that you’re okay when maybe the truth is, you’re not. We were lucky enough to record and mix this and album with producer, Andrija Tokic at The Bomb Shelter studio in Nashville. Mastered by the legendary Heba Kadry.
