You Have The Key (That Opens The Door)

Spanish DJ and producer Alex Vidal churns out another top notch cut on Bonzai Progressive with Mesmerized. Just a few months ago we saw him on remix duty for Audio Noir's, Life which proved very popular indeed on many playlists. Since then he has racked up appearances on our Ibiza 2015 compilation as well as showings on Green Martian's Afterhour Trax 15 and 16.

Mesmerized takes us down into the progressive abyss with a truly captivating array of sounds that blend effortlessly into a superb construction. Right from the off as the percussions form up to the backdrop of an atmospheric pad and the fading in punchy kicks, we get locked into the groove. A proper, raw, dirty bass picks up the pace and really delivers the goods to keep asses shakin'. Scattered around you'll find smooth vocal licks and subtle melodic phrases that pop out for a short time before getting lost in the mire once more. An epic slice of prog that will definitely grab the attention of many this summer.

Distant Lights intros with a somewhat tender kick drum that sits nicely alongside those captivating pads that ebb and flow. A smooth and steady rhythm is picked up by the crispy hats and tight percussion arrangement with a further boost by the deep rooted, driving bass line that dominates the track throughout. Sweeping strings and pads come complete with drifting melodies as synths threaten to burst out. On the break be prepared to totally lose yourself in the cosmic soundscape with that tough edged bass line as the backbone. A hell of a track that is most definitely going to be a main player in many sets no doubt.

About:
Over the past two years Mike Prigodich’s jazz-fusion compositions have begun attracting attention from many well-known national artists. For him, becoming a cancer patient in 2008 was the big wake-up call that got him to start writing new music, construct a band, start booking gigs, and pursue his dream of becoming a professional jazz musician. According to Prigodich, fellow cancer survivor Lance Armstrong inspired all this. Mike went on to raise over $10,000 on kickstarter.com in 2010 to fund this project which features Damian Erskine, Reinhardt Melz, John Nastos, Brandon Woody, Rafael Trujillo, Patrick Lamb, Tim Jensen, and Paul Mazzio. Emmy award-winning David Mathew also was on board to produce the project. “A Stitch in Time" is a breakout album for Prigodich, who says; “This album is a literally a dream come true and something I've wanted to do since childhood, but it took the life-changing event of a cancer diagnosis to give me the motivation I needed to make it happen. Like Lance Armstrong winning his first Tour de France, this project became my way to LIVESTRONG. It was a great honor and pleasure to work with these incredible musicians and hear my compositions come to life. I look forward to creating more great music in the years to come." Prigodich currently resides in Portland, Oregon and enjoys playing with some of the finest musicians in town who are up to the task of performing his extremely challenging, but accessible compositions. Throwing Muses return and sing songs aquatic; toasting the dark blue of the water, the New Orleans bywater viewed from New England’s Bo Diddley bridge. The bridge collapsing, the water waiting – who’s saving us?
 
Returning with their signature sound, the legendary Boston trio Throwing Muses, consisting of Kristin Hersh, David Narcizo and Bernard Georges, release their tenth studio album ‘Sun Racket’ on 22nd May via Fire Records.
 
The follow up to 2013’s ‘Purgatory/Paradise’ is an outpouring of modal guitars, reverbed shapes, pounding drums and driving bass set behind Kristin Hersh’s well-thumbed notebook of storylines and haunting vocals that get into your psyche.
 
A ten-song opus of suitably wrought tales set against a wall of sound that’s at once calm and ethereal before building into glorious cacophonous crescendos.
 
Drummer, David Narcizo: “Sun Racket has always been geographical... a transplanted southerner in New England crash landing in California. A West Coast sound at New England scale, dragged back down to the south where the elements got more aggressive but now with deeper roots.”
 
When they made their last album a few years back, they were shattered. Pieces were coming and going, elements repeating and charging the whole. “It sounded beautiful jumping around like that.” Two-minute songs reappearing as twisted instrumentals or another song’s bridge. They mimicked the effect live which kept them on their toes. Whatever was happening was already over in other words.
 
‘Sun Racket’ is the opposite. It refused to do anything but sit still. It says, “sit here and deal.”
 
“All it asked of us was to commingle two completely disparate sonic vocabularies: one heavy noise, the other delicate music box. Turns out we didn’t have to do much. Sun Racket knew what it was doing and pushed us aside, which is always best. After thirty years of playing together, we trust each other implicitly but we trust the music more” - Kristin Hersh
 
Hersh’s songwriting is like a poison pen letter revealing terrible secrets.
 
“I don’t regret a single drop of alcohol” ‘Milk at McDonald’s’ admits. This is tell-all phone-in radio, these are everyday stories, the puzzles of life.
 
“The devil has no soul” closing cut, the mysterious ‘Sue’s’ explains.
 
And so, they continue. Business unusual.
