Athens based DJ & producer, Jerm, debuts on Soma with a massive new release, Electric City EP. A relative new face to the greater Techno world, Jerm is quickly ascending the ranks with multiple hard hitting original productions and remixes which are garnering attention across the board. His debut Soma release sets down strong roots with direct and unrelenting Techno, moving from hard edged industrial sounds, to jacked up 90s flavoured elements. Also appearing for the first time on Soma, in the form of a remix, is UK Techno maverick, Manni Dee.

Control Theory opens the release with powerhouse beats and eviscerating synths and a colossal amount of attitude. Manni Dee’s remix of Control Theory feeds on that attitude and take it up even more with clear nods to the rapid Birmingham sound. Glass Chinn keeps the intensity flowing with galloping percussion that leads directly into a dark, driving and industrial-esq affair. Maiden Voyage works in more hypnotic elements whilst still retaining Jerm’s concussive and direct sound. The jacking and funked up vibes of Booze Cruise can be found as a Bandcamp exclusive.

Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Auspex follows up his debut EP release on his very own label Oath with eight intense techno/industrial tracks entitled “The Lesser Key Of Solomon” EP. Since the debut EP on Oath same time last year, the world has changed in unimaginable ways. Coming off of his label launch and the debut of his residency party ALTÆR at Brooklyn’s newest techno nightclub, Basement, nightlife was plunged into a holding pattern of uncertainty at the start of the year.
During this time, Auspex immersed himself in studio work, churning out release after release, peak-time
techno music infused with the paranoia and complexity of these modern times, with releases on techno labels like Måinmise, Insane Industry and Ōtomo.
The EP is loosely defined but not restrained by its concept: Utilizing field recordings collected across a range of urban explorations during NYC’s isolating quarantine lockdown period—from the shadowycorridors of an abandoned NYC asylum-turned-boarding-school to the crumbling hallways of plague hospitals and desolate dormitories of war veterans. Upon his return to the studio, Auspex used this collection of sounds—the crunch of glass and gravel underfoot, high pitched electric hums, hits and impacts, whispers and ambiences—to breath life into “The Lesser Key Of Solomon.” Some of NYC's most forbidden spaces and places became sound factories with these time-stained ambiences, impacts
and atmospheres lending themselves to each track in different ways, infusing each in some way with their character and history while still merging with futuristic techno-leaning dance floor soundscapes.
The EP kicks off with the title track “The Lesser Key Of Solomon,” sweeping and solemn synths swirling up from the ether around militant, defiant drums. “Ars Goetia” follows with a seething energy mingling
with bleeping sine waves before “Ars Theurgia-Goetia” roars to life with thunderous drums, a sinister synth dirge and a colorful, kaleidoscopic breakdown. The first half of the EP resolves with the hypnotic
and arpeggiating “Ars Paulina,” laced with ASMR-like whispering and conjurations. “Ars Almadel” is ripe with colorful phantom atmospheres and delays anchored by funky bass, before giving way to the industrial ripper “Ars Notoria.” “The General Curse” is the grounded by intricate rhythms, punctuated with spectral stabs, all building up to the EP’s closing “The License To Depart,” equal parts stomping
and jubilant, a fitting coda.
“The Lesser Key Of Solomon” EP drops on Oath on the 17th of December, 2020.
