Just over a year ago Cassy embarked on her largest and most personal
project yet, her debut solo album ‘Donna’, released on revered imprint AUS Music. Since then, Cassy has put out a string of remixes on Powerplant, Turbo, Echoe and Watergate, plus a track on Muna’s latest VA. Throughout this period, Cassy has also been in the studio working on new material, the first of which to be released in September, and is titled ‘Cassy 004’.

As the title infers, Cassy is reawakening her self-titled imprint she created in 2006, and has had three previous releases until now. With no plan or set schedule, the remit was simply to release her own records, when the time is right, and the quality is high. The music always reflected the quirkier side to Cassy’s club tastes. 004 continues in this vein. It perfectly encapsulates the sleek and hypnotic sounds of the harder end of her DJ sets. The tracks are titled ‘One’ and ‘Two’, with Cassy giving ‘One’ a reshape to round off a trio of cuts aimed at the dancefloor.

TROY PIERCE (aka Louderbach, Slacknoise and one third of Run Stop Restore with Magda and Marc Houle) unleashes one of the year’s most anticipated tracks with ’25 BITCHES’. The original track goes back a while, coming into creation as a joke composed while stuck waiting in an airport. Not like humor is never ever a part of Troy’s music or persona, ’25 Bitches’ has been knocking down doors in his and fellow DJ’s sets like Magda and Richie Hawtin since last fall. Pierce’s bass-heavy mix starts off full of dark ghosts, working into a dub bassline and surgical mix of effects and vocals.

Remixers for Volume I stepped up to the challenge with steam and force. Detroit’s BERG NIXON moves two ships in the night, colliding his vibes in the razor-sharp edit on side A that swells and ping’s while shifting to his more melodic and animated B side version with Berg’s ‘ZigZag remix’. MATT JOHN hits the chip from Berlin with his ’25 Pitches’ remix. Matt slices thru the bassline by creating a new intimate close-up version with a monotone pulse and subtle sneak-attack. Both remixers deliver the energy for DJ’s and dancefloors while also working in subtleties for deeper listening.

NYC-based talent Alexander Gentil takes to his own Errant Recordings with a stack of tripped out excursions via his 'Pendulum' EP, which includes the jazzy, acidic and stripped-back house roller 'Inertia'. 

With the second release on Errant, Alexander Gentil is proving he's one to keep an eye on moving forward as he showcases a captivating motif with intricately woven textures and driving rhythms. Elsewhere on the 'Pendulum' EP is a bubbling minimal house cut by Kamran Sadeghi, rounding out the stacked collection of after hours bliss. 

The 'Pendulum' EP is set for release September 30.

After gaining widespread industry acclaim for its original release four years ago, Smek by Tunisian duo Ÿuma will be reimagined in January with a bespoke remix package. Releasing on Crosstown Rebels, the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, SIS and MoM will be on duty to provide three distinctive remixes of the original.

Ricardo Villalobos leads the charge. Highlighting the signature sound with which he has become best known, Ÿuma’s hypnotic vocals converge on stripped-back kicks whilst subtle pads sing gently in the background. SIS’ remix comes next, blending tribal-laced drums with gentle acoustic guitar tones as whispering hats shimmer softly throughout, before MoM closes proceedings on a more ambient note, retaining the original’s folk-themed essence with emotive, slow-building percussion.

Ricardo Villalobos has been at the forefront of electronic music for over two decades. An eminent figure in the minimal techno sphere, releases on Perlon and his own Sei Es Drum helped cement his standing as one of the genre’s true heavy-hitters. Burak Sar AKA SIS is another of the minimal scene’s most long-standing artists. Notable productions in the form of Trompeta and Nesrib were swiftly picked up by Groove Magazine, who went on to vote him ‘Producer Of The Year’ for Nesrib and award him ‘Track Of The Year’ for Trompeta. Spanish-born MoM has garnered a reputation for sonic storytelling thanks to his bespoke approach to music, with releases on Stil vor Talent, DeNature and a collaboration with Burning Man regular Acid Pauli further establishing his unique and varied sound.
