Saxophonist, composer, and arranger Darryl Yokley’s latest album Un Mundo en Soledad, merges Latin music with contemporary jazz. Drawing inspiration from Gabriel García Márquez’s literary masterpiece One Hundred Years of Solitude, Yokley explores themes of solitude, history, and magical realism, creating a vivid, musical narrative.
His long-running ensemble, Darryl Yokley’s Sound Reformation, features the talents of Zaccai Curtis on piano, Luques Curtis on bass, and Wayne Smith on drums, with special guest Little Johnny Rivero on Latin percussion adding depth and authenticity to the project.

Through the album, Yokley channels his Mexican-American and African-American heritage, using rich compositions and captivating arrangements to reflect the cyclical nature of history and human experience. With dynamic interplay between the musicians, Un Mundo en Soledad is a compelling fusion of musical storytelling, offering listeners a powerful blend of emotion, history, and cultural depth.
