An avid crate-digger, Bristol-based producer and artist Slowe naturally takes inspiration from a plethora of genres, with her DIY approach reminiscent of lo-fi beat making - delicately collaging session recordings together, and repurposing techniques akin to those of J Dilla and Madlib. The result is both nostalgic and fiercely contemporary, with sparkling Rhodes, vintage drum lines, and ethereal vocals. This special Dilla Day mix pays tribute to the producer, drummer, rapper and songwriter with a selection of Slowe’s favourite tracks; "I wanted to put together this mix in honour of one of my biggest inspirations. Featuring my favourite Jay Dee tracks, productions and samples, including songs from Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, Slum Village and more. Go on a journey of all things James Yancey with me.”

I've always been a huge fan of Jazz music. Especially the works from labels like Blue Note, Prestige, Strata East, Kudu, and CTI. I think it's pretty safe to say most of us music lovers dig that stuff! There's just something about the complex patterns of rhythm that are intermingled together that always has seemed superior to other genres (in my opinion). Here's a mix I put together of some of my favorite Jazz songs. On this mix I wanted to leave most of the tracks unedited, and showcase them in their natural raw form. The way it was meant to sound! Meant for funky tea parties and long walks on the beach. Enjoy!

We've included few artists from the UK who we feel are making great stuff, from local jazz groups such as Vels Trio and Brother's Testiment to more vocal/beat-based music with Bawo and Ojerime. The blend of jazz and UK rap-based genres has always been at the forefront of what we try to do and the Yussef Dayes remix of Frontline by Pa Salieu needed to be included as it was a great coming together of two musical worlds which influence our approach.

In general this mix is just made up of tunes which we love although we also felt the need to include some of our proudest moments from our recent project, Ugh, as well as a preview of our soon-to-be released remix of Jarami's Company. Cheers for listening!"
