The 285th edition of our Local Selection mix series comes from Mav, who delivers a head-banging techno session built entirely from her own productions.

Dublin’s Mav has become an essential force in contemporary Irish techno. Her approach stands apart from the conveyor-belt sensibilities often associated with the genre today. Instead, she delves deep into the world of live, hardware-driven performance, crafting tracks that feel raw, tactile and intensely human, music where machine and body interact to create something visceral and physical.

Though she may have only come onto wider radars in recent years, Mav has been a committed participant in dance music culture for far longer. She began DJing in the early 2000s, eventually finding her home in the alternative club scene, a space where she could explore her gender identity while refining her artistic voice. Her sound sits firmly on the dark and industrial end of the techno spectrum.

With roots in rock and metal, Mav approached electronic music from an outsider’s angle. Deep dives into industrial, darkwave, goth, EBM and aggrotech expanded her sonic vocabulary and continue to shape her creativity. She gravitates toward pounding four-on-the-floor rhythms, aggressive and hypnotic grooves, minimal melodies and deadpan vocals, elements that combine to set the stage for intense dance-floor journeys.

This 100% original-productions mix is a testament to countless hours spent in the studio. Across an unrelenting hour, she showcases her physical, hands-on process: noisy, thumping, abrasive techno powered by raw emotion. It’s music designed to be felt as much as heard, provoking a direct, bodily response. Fierce, impactful and brutalist yet textured, dynamic and tactile—this is Mav in masterclass form.

We invited warmly Nilya to record one of her powerful mixes to be loud again like every day and every year, against systematic violences against women wolrdwide.

Nilya has long been a key figure in organizing and purposefully shaping Salzburg’s underground electronic music scene, before stepping behind the decks to express her taste and vision in music. With upcoming releases on BCCO and other labels, she captivates audiences not only with her well-curated sets but also through her own productions.
Her sound is a seamless blend of deep, hypnotic and dreamy yet driving techno creating an immersive, almost surreal atmosphere. Eyes closed, heads down, sending your mind and body on a journey.

The term annex typically describes a structure joined to a main building, offering extra space or function. In this spirit, Tresor Records revives the ANNEX series with a new end-of-year collection that serves as an extension of the label and club’s output, adding to the creative life that has unfolded within Köpenicker Str. 70 over the past years.

Since the club moved in 2007, the Kraftwerk complex has been repurposed from its original use as a power station to fulfil multiple functions that bring people together to collaborate and congregate: Office, venue, club, exhibition space, and home to the Berlin Atonal festival, the Tresor Foundation, and the Academy of Subcultural Understanding. With the arrival of the Hard Wax record shop in 2023, the building now offers another way for the like-minded to come together and to share ideas in a common space.

ANNEX echoes the many roles of the building by fostering introduction, connection, and creation: all of the music within was created by individuals directly linked to Tresor: from club staff and residents to Hard Wax employees and long-time friends.

Across 28 tracks, the compilation unites artists from various backgrounds and generations, some collaborating for the first time, creating a moment in motion as Tresor heads into a new year.
