"Sluice Box Tavern" is the first song released from the forthcoming new EP by CONTACT FIELD ORCHESTRA "Mapping The Futures Gone By" [HNR55] on HIT+RUN.

"Mapping The Futures Gone By" furthers CONTACT FIELD ORCHESTRA's exploration of dubby broken percussion and haunting found sounds.   Sirens and lasers accent plaintive woodwind arrangements set against mbiras and bluesy guitars.  Fitting in a time and place that's uniquely it's own, MTFGB is a travelogue to a lucid dream, a mining expedition or a trip to space--somehow nostalgic and familiar, yet somehow not at all.

This 6-track EP is the fourth release from CONTACT FIELD ORCHESTRA with HIT+RUN ("Volume 1", "Volume 2", plus the cassette-only H+R Mixtape from 2012).  CFO has also appeared on Giles Peterson's seminal compilation series "Brownswood Bubblers Vol. 10", and contributed to Ninja Tune's popular "Solid Steel" mix series.  

CONTACT FIELD ORCHESTRA is produced by Southern California musician & artist Damon Aaron.  In 2008 he came across a box of 7" tapes at an estate sale in Altadena that turned out to be field recordings of a turn-of-the century orchestra of ex-miners; recorded almost entirely with hand-made instruments and contact microphones.  This became the source material for this collection of celebrated releases with HIT+RUN.   

"Mapping The Futures Gone By" is available in two very distinct limited-edition green/bronze & green/black heavy-splattered 10" vinyl, each housed in a one-of-a-kind hand silkscreened jackets printed by Hit+Run in downtown Los Angeles. Limited pressing of only 400 copies!

After an impressive debut year, New Zealand born, Australian based future-soul singer Wallace has just released another supremely soulful track. "Negroni Eyes" was produced by Dave Rodriguez AKA Godriguez, who slices up old jazz standards to make new beats. The lure of this sort of this production technique appealed to the Jazz nerd within Wallace. After asking Godriguez to have a play around with one of her favourite instrumental jazz tunes, Nardis by Miles Davis, Negroni Eyes was born.

"The lyric imagery in Negroni Eyes was inspired by a Frida Kahlo quote I saw scrawled in chalk on the wall of a Mexican restaurant in Wellington, NZ", says Wallace.

 "I drank to drown my sorrows, but the damned things learned how to swim."

"My mind conjured up an image of a person knee-deep, wading through alcohol inside their own brain, searching for the cause of the flood all the while knowing that they, themselves are to blame. I guess in a way it's an ode to vices and their ability to mask problems."
