This was great before the demolitions nonsense. A large fire, even without the plane impacts (and debris impacts in the case of Building 7) could have brought down the buildings, they were steel framed with very little structural concrete. Windsor tower, for example, had a steel and a concrete section, and the steel structured section almost entirely collapsed due to the fire. A few steel framed apartment buildings have been brought down by fire as well. Steel cannot maintain its structural integrity in such a fire. Also building 7 took something like 16 seconds to collapse, the last 5 seconds were the exterior facade on one side.

Near-exclusively steel framed buildings of such a size as WTC7, much less WTC1&2, are fairly uncommon. The risk fires pose to such buildings had been known for decades (though 9/11 was a big public example of it). The insulation sprayed onto the steel of the buildings was a result of worries of the damage a large fire could cause, including the risk of collapse. With WTC7 in particular, there was pretty severe damage from tower collapse debris you can find in several pictures of.

Personally I would not doubt if the controlled demolitions theories are gassed up by the perpetrators seeing as the actual method of destruction of the buildings has taken up an immensely disproportionate amount of the time spent on the subject of suspicious aspects of 9/11, rather the myriad of connections between several powerful families, intelligence agencies, and al Qaeda. From an engineering standpoint the way the collapses occured isn't all too weird considering the cheap construction, near exclusive reliance on steel, etc. in the buildings, but the collapses seem strange to laymen and are fairly seperated from the background of the attacks.

Cockpit Voice Recorders are housed in the rear of aircraft, not the cockpit. Black boxes don't survive fires all the time if the case is compromised. It's not uncommon.
