It’s been a crazy but productive year for Marseille’s Matt Sassari. Having dropped releases on Kraftek, KMS, Bitten and Bouq, plus remixes for the likes of Tronic, Deeperfect and Form; the young producer is enjoying a rich and creative run that today sees him become the newest member of the SCI+TEC family with his label debut ‘Barglom’. 

The three track EP sees the Frenchman again showcase his deep, techy grooves as he opens with ‘You Know Chorus’ and its swollen pulsing bassline and fearsome rave stabs that jab throughout, breaking and yet enhancing the flow of the record. ‘Barglom’ kicks hard from the off but is tempered by subtle railroad horns that work brilliantly with Matt’s stripped beats to create a funky little engine. 

Final track ‘Harchinery’ sees Sassari team up with long time friend Matt Mor to create a darker and creepier finalé to the release while still maintaining the strong groovin’ backbone that runs throughout.

Layton Giordani makes his Truesoul debut with a pumping, three track release. The high energy tracks showcase Layton’s youthful and fresh approach to production. ‘Unspoken’, holding a pounding kick drum and thumping techno sound, is the heavier of the three tracks whilst ‘Misunderstood’ and ‘Trusting You’ cut a lighter groove. The samples are uplifting, sounds imaginative and the percussion is tight - this EP is not to be missed.

Truesoul continues 2019 in stunning form, with a fantastic original from Riva Starr and a trio of classy remixes from the Italian master’s ‘Curveballs’ album. 

Almost 15 years deep into his career and the Napoli-born, London dwelling Riva Starr (aka Stefano Miele) remains one of electronic music’s most eclectic selectors, his production repertoire encompassing house, techno, breakbeat and beyond. Making his debut on Truesoul in 2017, his contributions include a memorable collaborative EP with Tiger Stripes titled ‘Sound of the Bettest’ and his fourth album ‘Curveballs’ released in October 2018.

Such is the high regard Adam Beyer holds Riva Starr, that it wasn’t long before a return to Truesoul was on the cards. ‘Jill Wears Black’ leads the package, a masterclass in fleetfooted dynamics as multi-layered strings, undulating bass and punchy percussion rub shoulders throughout the six-minute cut. An inspired composition that’s already highlighted Resistance in Ibiza, Elrow and a host of festivals throughout the summer months.

On the remix front, Truesoul has recruited three of the finest to remix Riva’s ‘Curveball’ originals. Drumcode mainstay Layton Giordani steps up for his first Truesoul outing since 2016, reworking ‘The Hole’ into a throbbing peak-time weapon. Marquis Hawkes, one of the Italian’s favourite producer of late, also joins the project, delivering a glistening, spacey interpretation of ‘Piknik’. Firebrand Harvey McKay delivers a trademark powerful re-rub of ‘Disco Loco’, taking the synths of the original and jacking up the intensity to bring it into peak-time techno territory.

Matt Sassari is Truesoul’s first debutant of 2020, landing a punchy four-track work.

Hailing from the French port town of Marseille, the emerging artist caught Adam Beyer’s ear with strong cuts on imprints such as Relief Records and Sci-Tec. When the emerging artist begun sending demos, they quickly connected with the Truesoul boss and ‘Crack Body’ was rinsed heavily throughout the summer months of 2018.

Such is Beyer’s A&R style, patiently waiting for all the pieces of the EP puzzle to take shape, Sassari’s maiden release for the label has finally found form. The title track – familiar to fans from DCR415 – is a groove-packed party-starter brought to life by a rousing vocal sequence. With its bumping bottom end and attitude-packed vox, ‘Bruuh’ is a colourful and energetic addition to any set. ‘Everytime I See You’, is soulful techno made for big occasions, led by a memorable vocal and shuffling beats. ‘Cooking Drums’ displays Sassari’s penchant for building plenty of swing from the ground upwards, as chopped up vocal effects lay atop a sturdy bed of drums to create a useful DJ tool.
