St.Ego - Breaking Trust [Sag & Tre]

Bla Bla, Deep Tech Records and Baile Musik artist Dimmish is the latest up and comer to be nurtured through the Lucidflow family with the 'Gokotta' EP. The three tracker easily fits into the portfolio with its penchant for sharp beats and deep melodies. This is evidenced in heading straight to the title track, where a stark introduction eventually unfurls like time-lapse imagery of a crocus at sunrise. Here, the middle stretch suddenly broadens into pleading arpeggio and strings, tugging at your emotions as the sound of seagulls filter in.Living up to its title, 'Solid' heads straight for bedrock. It is a percussive churning number that aims to disorientate with its dizzying breakdown that turns into a swarm of hi-hats before diving back down into the hypnosis. Rounding off, 'Elision' goes for progressive structure, eking out the introduction of elements as the track pushes on. The path is set with breakbeats and aqua chords, then the anchoring kick is introduced, then greater emphasis on melodic elements. The key conceit are the flourishes that precede these micro-events, most significantly with the swells that accompany the disorientating spoken word poetry in the breakdowns.

Sydney Blu - Mind Games

Following on from his well-received ‘Impermanence’ EP in 2015, Sidney Charles makes a welcome return to the Truesoul fold. 

It may be a surprise to learn Sidney Charles only produced his first record in 2011; indeed, the Hamburg-born, London-based artist has crafted some of the most sophisticated and effective productions spanning the house and techno genre in recent years, taking inspiration from the rough jacking sounds of the early ‘90s. 

His first release on Truesoul in three years sees him in typically inspired form with a versatile four-track package. ‘Jack Endlessly’ builds layer upon layer of groove-ridden beats and ravey stabs that lead into an exaggerated build up, all deftly complimented by a suggestive vocal sample. ‘R.E.D.’ contrasts excellently, a dirty bass-driven cut with shades of Chicago, that makes its mark courtesy of a rousing soulful vocal. ‘Unchained’ sounds as though it was forged in a knives factory, as expertly programmed drums rub shoulders with deep twisted subterranean stabs for a pin-sharp finish. ‘‘Molec’ closes out the EP as a shimmering end-of-night melodic gem that reinforces the German’s versatility and thoughtfulness as a producer.

Ramon Tapia drops his first solo outing for Truesoul with the classy ‘Manipulate’.

The recent outstanding form of Ramon Tapia has been too good to ignore for Adam Beyer. In December the Belgian dropped the powerful ‘Hexagon’ as part of the Truesoul V/A EP, and with Beyer’s attention on lock, follows up swiftly with the excellent ‘Manipulate’ EP.

The title track embodies the ethos of Truesoul to a tee; a crisp and groovy work that straddles the divide between house and techno, it’s a late-night burner that shines courtesy of a dark searing electro bassline and pin-sharp drum work that builds up to a deliciously nasty finish. Its accompaniment is ‘Adam and Eve’, a punchy peak-time cut elevated by an energetic vocal, atmospheric pad and energetic melody line that has it begging to be dropped during a euphoric festival moment.

UK producer Apollo 84 returns to Roush in July as he delivers his latest 3 track EP ‘Human Machines’. With releases on the likes of Elrow, VIVa and Lost Records, plus remixes for Hauswerks, Mirco Caruso and more since making his production debut back in 2013, London based DJ / producer Apollo 84 has quickly established himself amongst the latest crop of rising producers, whilst holding down regular appearances at London’s Lightbox/Fire venues. Having previously contributed to the labels latest ‘Not Ordinary’ sampler in January, here we see the Twisted Fusion boss back to deliver an energetic three track offering to mark his first full EP on the imprint. Title cut ‘Human Machines’ quickly unveils a rolling percussive groove accented by choppy vocal hooks and a commanding top line, before ‘Energize’ takes clues from it’s title by to deliver a high tempo, kinetic production armed with shuffling drum licks and robotic vocals. Last up, ‘Privy’ changes up the dynamic of the EP as organic percussion loops are paired with spiraling effects and bumping sub bass to punctuate the package.
