Digital Finesse is proud to present Alex Barbu's Adolescence EP, a five-track vinyl that gives voice to a shy, introspective mind shaped by uncertainty. Oscillating between electro and techno, this record captures the raw essence of youth—where emotions are both unfiltered and deeply complex.

In June 2024, when we first listened to Alex Barbu’s tracks, we were immediately struck by their precision and sincerity. A bold minimalism, straight to the point, yet infused with intricate sound design and immersive atmospheres inspired by mountains and Mediterranean ambiances. Adolescence EP encapsulates that fleeting moment between innocence and self-awareness, between the effortless and loud grace of youth and the quiet nostalgia in the coldness of adulthood. As simple as the strong emotions of adolescence. As intricate as the places they transport you to.

To the three original tracks by Alex Barbu, we added two remixes that open new emotional dimensions. First, a never-stop-evolving rework by the Monolith, who fully JimmyBattified "Living Without Ego." Then comes Blinkduus Dischetto, closing the record with his signature raw sensuality, a tactile and almost cinematic reinterpretation that lingers long after the needle lifts. Each track tells a story. Each sound is a memory. Unique, like every life experience.
This is the kind of emotion Digital Finesse strives to bring to life.

Xavier’s music has been charted and played by leading artists around the world, and he has worked with many international record labels for the past 18 years. He is also the owner of Face To Face Recordings.

We begin the week with a brilliant Guest Mix from David Boldt, known in the techno world as Modig.
 
David was part of the band ‘Grey Television’ for many years, until the turning point came in 2014. The band decided to split up and David chose to pursue his solo career. Electro- nic music is especially important for David, because it has never failed to provide shelter through his career as an artist and especially when the everyday life showed the harsh limits of following his personal interests.

In the early years of his solo career David experimented with elements from his indie rock band past, as well as with influences of neoclassicism. He impatiently tried out many new things with the ambition to see quick successes.

Already in 2015 he had his first live appearances as a solo artist with electronic self - produced music. Back then his style of music wouldn’t yet be considered as techno, but was a stopover between his bands “Grey Television” style to David’s very own unique style of music today.

A first highlight of his music career was when he was invited to Norway for the Oya Festival, where he played live in front of 1.000 people. Self -confident, open-minded and perhaps also led by haughtiness, he worked out his place on stage in front of the audience. "Modig!”, which means courageous in Norwegian, was the feedback the audience gave David, they considered it courageous when he revealed that he had only rehearsed twice. Thus the name "Modig“ was found as a pseudonym for his artistic work as a producer and DJ. 

In the following years David constantly aimed to experience and explore new, unique things that contributed to his artistic work. This also included an open- hearted preoccupation with analogue synthesizers.

Modig is fascinated by the club life of his hometown Berlin, which can be observed in clubs like Berghain or Tresor. Moving bodies without a break: That‘s all he has ever wanted!

His first release on in 2019 on @soma was “Latissimus”, and is a collection of one- takes resulting from live sessions. Without exception they are statements and don’t miss Modig’s unique handwriting or haughtiness.

Just as impatient, unrestrained and self -confident as David himself. Since, he went to release on Soma again in early 2020, as well as being invited on Slam Radio by the Scottish duo at the helm of the iconic label.

For this DT:Premiere we selected “Flying to the Top of Dorian’s Mountain” that is a compelling lesson in experimentation. A rolling rhythm advances forward underneath a loose string arrangement that seemingly floats freely with contrasting modular glitches and buzzing intensity.

After being introduced to electronic music back in the early 90's in Los Angeles, a teenage David Flores was hooked. He started DJing across Southern California on the DIY warehouse, backyard, desert, and rave circuit. His style then was as varied as the local scene - a myriad of sounds ranging from house to acid to techno to hardcore. After a few years solely DJing, he began releasing original music under the monikers David F & Audio Injection, which landed him on labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track & LA label Droid Recordings. His association with Droid Behavior began in 2003 as resident at the now defunct yet infamous and internationally acclaimed Interface event series alongside Drumcell and Raiz. He currently runs a new event series together with Drumcell and Oktaform named “Observe”.

In early 2011, he started the project Truncate to focus on the deeper, raw side of techno. His Truncate releases early on gained critical acclaim from world class underground talent such as Modeselektor, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Eats Everything, Joris Voorn, and many more. Since then, he has provided remixes for artists across the musical spectrum including Kink, Slam, Loco Dice, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Ellen Alien, Miss Kittin, Carl Cox & Nicole Moudaber. He has also released original works on 50 Weapons, Ultramajic, Blueprint, Ei8ht, Figure and of course his own imprint Truncate. He has also collaborated with Jimmy Edgar, Chambray and most recently started a new project with Ben Sims as ‘Assailants’ which they’ve released on their own imprint ‘Obscurity Is Infinite’.

A rigorous international tour schedule has since followed, including stops and regular appearances at the most prestigious venues and events, including Berghain in Berlin, Fabric in London, Concrete in Paris, The Movement Festival in Detroit, Womb in Tokyo, Dimensions Festival in Croatia, Awakenings in Amsterdam, Output in New York, and many more.

With his heavy remix, production and touring schedule there is still no slowing down for David. He continues to shape an evolving sound and to champion the Los Angeles underground.
