Santos’ first release for Matt Edwards’ Rekids imprint, the four-track ‘We Were All Kids Once’ EP , is a continuation of the experienced producer’s output on his own Let Me Understand Records, which has seen a staggering amount of support from DJs since it’s launch in 2018.

Traversing rugged, tracky, Relief-influenced House/T echno (‘One Day’), drummy grooves (‘Don’t T ouch’ and ‘Rollercoaster’) and cosseting beat-down Deep House (‘Someone’),
‘We Were All Kids Once’ is one of those genuinely essential EPs that provides exceptionally consistent dancefloor ammunition across it’s breadth.

With the likes of Ryan Elliott, Honey Dijon, Ame, Raresh, Luke Slater, Enzo Siragusa, Ben Sims and more supporting his output over the past few years, Santos is in the form of his career. While releases like the breakthrough ‘Camels’ and the anthem ‘Hold Home’ mark Santos as a producer of note at the turn of the century, his four solo albums and, most recently, his Let Me Understand Records EPs have proved he’s an artist that is constantly pushing
forward.

With an absolute ton of marvellous productions on labels like 50 Weapons, Luke Slater’s Mote-Evolver, Blueprint and Ultramajic, we’re having a bit of a ‘fan-boy’ moment here at EI8HT, and proud as punch to welcome Truncate to our burgeoning label.

On the ‘TRUNCEI8HT’ EP (see what we did there!), David Flores serves up a trio of textbook techno DJ tools for the deeper dancefloors.

A stripped down, bouncing groove constitutes ‘Our Bodies’, as rattling ride rhythms and rolling percussion maintain forward motion, its scantly used metallic vocal sample crushed and mangled. 

Latin flavours are at play on ‘Utility 2’, with a female vox and bustling groove adding bucket loads of funk to it’s already super charged vibe, whilst ‘Utility 3’ goes further, ramping up the BPMs and offering up a frantic loop driven banger with that unmistakable Truncate sound!

For the next release on their EI8HT Records imprint, longtime friends Eats Everything and Andres Campo have tapped LA techno powerhouse Truncate to deliver the labels next, cleverly titled 'TRUNCEI8HT' EP.

Ahead of the three-track EP's release on August 8, Truncate has handed over the cut 'Utility 2' - a tribal and elemental groover with resourceful builds that keep you locked in from start to finish.

After being introduced to electronic music back in the early 90's in Los Angeles, a teenage David Flores was hooked. He started DJing across Southern California on the DIY warehouse, backyard, desert, and rave circuit. His style then was as varied as the local scene - a myriad of sounds ranging from house to acid to techno to hardcore. After a few years solely DJing, he began releasing original music under the monikers David F & Audio Injection, which landed him on labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track & LA label Droid Recordings. His association with Droid Behavior began in 2003 as resident at the now defunct yet infamous and internationally acclaimed Interface event series alongside Drumcell and Raiz. He currently runs a new event series together with Drumcell and Oktaform named “Observe”.

In early 2011, he started the project Truncate to focus on the deeper, raw side of techno. His Truncate releases early on gained critical acclaim from world class underground talent such as Modeselektor, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Eats Everything, Joris Voorn, and many more. Since then, he has provided remixes for artists across the musical spectrum including Kink, Slam, Loco Dice, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Ellen Alien, Miss Kittin, Carl Cox & Nicole Moudaber. He has also released original works on 50 Weapons, Ultramajic, Blueprint, Ei8ht, Figure and of course his own imprint Truncate. He has also collaborated with Jimmy Edgar, Chambray and most recently started a new project with Ben Sims as ‘Assailants’ which they’ve released on their own imprint ‘Obscurity Is Infinite’.

A rigorous international tour schedule has since followed, including stops and regular appearances at the most prestigious venues and events, including Berghain in Berlin, Fabric in London, Concrete in Paris, The Movement Festival in Detroit, Womb in Tokyo, Dimensions Festival in Croatia, Awakenings in Amsterdam, Output in New York, and many more.

With his heavy remix, production and touring schedule there is still no slowing down for David. He continues to shape an evolving sound and to champion the Los Angeles underground.
