SLAM MAKE WAVES WITH THE FIRST RELEASE IN THEIR SOMA TRACK SERIES

Slam have started a sub division of their Soma Records label called Soma Track Series which sees the duo going back to their Chicago-inspired roots and to kick things off their Techno bomb 'Make You Move' is quickly making waves with clubbers and DJs alike! 

The buzz gathered steam when it was picked up early by Ben Klock who dropped it at Fabric London and then posted a video clip of the Room 2 reaction. It has since been road tested by an elite force of the world's leading Techno DJs including Len Faki, Blawan, Adam Beyer, Dave Clarke and Carl Cox and has since crossed over into the box of fellow Glaswegian Jackmaster.

Dynamic Ukrainian producer Yan Cook makes his debut on Soma Records with the Wide Angle EP. Active on the scene for some time now and releasing on a number of top flight labels, Yan delivers a devastating 4 track EP, chalked full of his distinctive sound. 

The ominous title Wide Angle kicks things off with thumping and tripped out low end and doesnt hold back, firing straight out of the block with rapid percussion and twisted synth elements. Krater keeps up the pace with a more rolling and hypnotic feel; crushing rhythmic elements has Yan on full attack mode with this track. Blacklisted keeps up the aggressive vibes with sinister tones, growling basslines and yet more jarring and propulsive rhythms. Closing out with Red Stream, Yan continues with the malevolent vibes as dark and forbidding tones permeate throughout this perfectly crafted tool.

Yan Cook is yet another welcome addition to the ever growing roster of high quality talent on Soma.

With an absolute ton of marvellous productions on labels like 50 Weapons, Luke Slater’s Mote-Evolver, Blueprint and Ultramajic, we’re having a bit of a ‘fan-boy’ moment here at EI8HT, and proud as punch to welcome Truncate to our burgeoning label.

On the ‘TRUNCEI8HT’ EP (see what we did there!), David Flores serves up a trio of textbook techno DJ tools for the deeper dancefloors.

A stripped down, bouncing groove constitutes ‘Our Bodies’, as rattling ride rhythms and rolling percussion maintain forward motion, its scantly used metallic vocal sample crushed and mangled. 

Latin flavours are at play on ‘Utility 2’, with a female vox and bustling groove adding bucket loads of funk to it’s already super charged vibe, whilst ‘Utility 3’ goes further, ramping up the BPMs and offering up a frantic loop driven banger with that unmistakable Truncate sound!

After being introduced to electronic music back in the early 90's in Los Angeles, a teenage David Flores was hooked. He started DJing across Southern California on the DIY warehouse, backyard, desert, and rave circuit. His style then was as varied as the local scene - a myriad of sounds ranging from house to acid to techno to hardcore. After a few years solely DJing, he began releasing original music under the monikers David F & Audio Injection, which landed him on labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track & LA label Droid Recordings. His association with Droid Behavior began in 2003 as resident at the now defunct yet infamous and internationally acclaimed Interface event series alongside Drumcell and Raiz. He currently runs a new event series together with Drumcell and Oktaform named “Observe”.

In early 2011, he started the project Truncate to focus on the deeper, raw side of techno. His Truncate releases early on gained critical acclaim from world class underground talent such as Modeselektor, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Eats Everything, Joris Voorn, and many more. Since then, he has provided remixes for artists across the musical spectrum including Kink, Slam, Loco Dice, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Ellen Alien, Miss Kittin, Carl Cox & Nicole Moudaber. He has also released original works on 50 Weapons, Ultramajic, Blueprint, Ei8ht, Figure and of course his own imprint Truncate. He has also collaborated with Jimmy Edgar, Chambray and most recently started a new project with Ben Sims as ‘Assailants’ which they’ve released on their own imprint ‘Obscurity Is Infinite’.

A rigorous international tour schedule has since followed, including stops and regular appearances at the most prestigious venues and events, including Berghain in Berlin, Fabric in London, Concrete in Paris, The Movement Festival in Detroit, Womb in Tokyo, Dimensions Festival in Croatia, Awakenings in Amsterdam, Output in New York, and many more.

With his heavy remix, production and touring schedule there is still no slowing down for David. He continues to shape an evolving sound and to champion the Los Angeles underground.
