Cisco was originally meant to play for us in August 2021 but Covid put a stop to that; thankfully we were able to fulfil our goal of having him to play for us and it couldn't have gone any better in our honest opinion.

EPM Podcast 154 comes from Amorphic. From when his debut release was picked up by Dave Angel in 1995 for release on Rotation, Vince Watson’s name has become a byword for quality techno - infused with the spirit of Detroit. Having released on such lauded labels as Tresor, Planet E, Delsin, FCom and Ibadan as well as his own Everysoul and Bio labels he now turns his focus onto a new harder edged element to his production side with Amorphic. Amorphic has been many years in the making, finally laying out plans for hardware only live sets and DJ set tours starting in late 2022. The project exists as an outlet for Vince’s harder edged material as well as an experiment in sound. We are delighted to showcase the many facets to Vince’s new project with his ‘Amorphic’ DJ set for the EPM Podcast. Featuring artists such as Pfirter, Norbak, Drop-E, Motion Symmetry, Vertical Spectrum, Marc Faenger, Tauceti and numerous unreleased Amorphic exclusives, Vince takes us into a dark, hypnotic world of tough and taut techno beats. 

Earlier this year (2022), Vince Watson finally launched his long awaited new live Techno project ‘Amorphic’ as well as a self-titled label. The first EP (Amorphic 01) was released in March and between July and August will debut on two of the best techno labels in the business - Modularz & Symbolism, as well as a debut on Token early 2023. October will also see the 2nd EP on the Amorphic label entitled 02. Looks like Vince is back in the saddle for another busy year|

LOGLINE:

JOHNNY GAMBIT is "Miami Vice" meets "Akira" meets "Mister X" in Fritz Lang's METROPOLIS with elements of DARK CITY.

PROLOGUE:

JANUARY 1st, 1959 and SEVENTH CITY is America's fastest-growing metropolis. A futuristic dream city built on the ashes of World War II. A testing ground for leading-edge technologies and prototype consumer products designed to be seven years ahead of the general U.S. population, hence the city's name.

Competely owned and operated by the RAYTHEON CORPORATION, the city fathers and the European expatriate genius inventor MIES VAN DER FLUGT promise a new kind of engine that will provide FREE, CLEAN ENERGY to the citizens of SEVENTH CITY --forever!

On January 1st, New Year's Day (the day of the Cuban Revolution in our world), the city fathers, with great fanfare, throw the switch to activate the massive RESISTANCE ENGINES deep beneath the city. But an unforeseen SIDE EFFECT occurs. The sky goes red.

THE BARRIER.

An impenetrable FORCE FIELD surrounds the city almost instantly, cutting it off from the rest of the world. Nothing can penetrate it, not even TV or radio signals.

CUT TO PRESENT DAY.

Over 60 years after the INCIDENT, Seventh City survives, like a World's Fair City of the Future gone to seed. Its mighty ART DECO skyline still thrusts high into the air due to ELECTROMAGNETIC innovations that allow higher buildings to be built. MINISTRY TOWER--the building that houses City bureaucracy and much of its ruling elite--dominates the skyline. 

Into this dystopia comes the electromag drag-racing, techno club-owning, part-time private detective JOHNNY GAMBIT (not his real name), a punk-rock, urban troubleshooter with a vague past.

Now in the present day, trouble begins when a mysterious girl appears, claiming to have the formula to collapse the BARRIER and free Seventh City. But the generational heirs of Seventh City industry, THE SCION CLUB, backed by the shadowy TECHNOCLERICS, like the status quo just the way it is!

This is a sample of the dj set we played in Berlin past weekend @ Sisyphos, hammahalle!

Trunkline is a duo formed by French producers Madben and Yann Lean. Both are key figures in the French techno scene and have been endorsed by giants in the industry, including Laurent Garnier, John Digweed and Dave Clarke. They bring together their shared love for Detroit techno, passion for experimenting with analog synthesizers and mastery fusing hard textures with emotional and atmospheric soundscapes, to create music that make the crowds stomp hard with an everlasting smile.

Their LP “Mercy”, released few weeks ago, encapsulates the essence of Trunkline. Freedom, spontaneity and improvisation are at the core of their productions. The LP is an experimental blend of hard drumlines and heavy distortions. Each track is a playful celebration of the rough and raw textures of techno.

Madben & Yann Lean unite forces under the Trunkline moniker.
Trunkline gets back to the essence of techno with a raw sound based on groove, textures and catchy hooks. They play an « on the fly » live act : Trunkline is adept of a very spontaneous track conception. Their full analogic set up give them the freedom of jaming and loads of improvisation on stage, as jazzmen could do.
