Tell Me Things About You, I'll Tell You Things About Me

Roland released the TR-606 “Drumatix”, the cosmetic twin to the TB-303, in 1981. At the dawning of the digital era, two of the most influential producers in reggae - Prince Jammy in Kingston and Bullwackie in The Bronx - each bought one, adding to their increasingly electronic rhythm and bass sections. Nearly ten years later it would be phased out in favor of Casios and Yamahas - digital samples taking over in lieu of synthetic analog sounds. But in this period of around 1983 to 1985, as dancehall switches from roots playing and jamming towards the harder, stripped down sound of the 90s, the simultaneously sharp and soft sound of the TR-606 can be heard in many classics. This mix is an ode to that era of dancehall and the mighty TR-606.

Supportive environment's like Commend are very rare, so its an absolute honour to present an exclusive 90 minute cassette together with two of their lightworkers - Nina (who's also a member of NYC DJ crew Working Women) & Jaclyn (aka Voice Training).

Nina's side pays homage to a place where you can go that embraces all moods, that refreshes and re-energizes, that is unconditional....harmonizing with your environment through play, sensation and connection. 

On the flip, Jaclyn's mix takes you drifting down a stream of pulsating waves & cosmic loops, before projecting you up into the high ether....with your arms wrapped around a comfortable bubble, reflecting on the many vapors of the sky that shimmer & float on by...

A little taste for whats to come for the future of Big Eats.  Volume 1 is a short mix originally intended as a sampler of sorts for spots to roughly get a sense for the type of sounds one would hear throughout a night I'd spin.
