In its 4th installment, JIN, the Taipei, Taiwan-based label, continues its cosmic journey with a set of tracks that simmer between peak-time dance floor and early morning afterhours vibe. First upsee Bangkok's Siamese Twins mainstay Sunju Hargun, 1/2 of Mogambo, returning to JIN with two A-side tracks.

The first “Chale” is a modern ode to classic trance that will leave dancefloors from Bangkok to Berlin in ecstasy. His second track-フーイズカサンドラ("Who is Kassandra") is a post peak-time 7-minute acid bomb that spins and reverberates in every direction. 

The B-side features two remixes of “Chale”. First up, Barcelona's wunderkind Marc Pinol removes the trance needle and rebuilds the track creating a perfectly dubbed-our cosmic trip between musical galaxies. Finishing the E.P. Taipei's own Initials B.B. incorporates guitar samples turning the original into a futuristic, new wave-like slow burner that leaves one floating between planets.

For its next release, the resurgent Deeplay Digital offers up three new versions of a classic and previously unreleased (on 12” at least) disco-fried Giorgio Moroder track in the form of ‘Utopia – Me Giorgio’. The remixer is Opilec Music boss, I-Robots, who has reworked classic Moroder material before and who is a huge fan of the disco and electronic music pioneer Einzelgänger.

The concept of this release was simply to create longer versions of the track that was originally included in the From Here To Eternity partially mixed album – incredibly no one else has officially done this since the original release date in 1977. Importantly, though, because the track is so seminal, the remixes are all hugely sympathetic affairs that don’t change the atmosphere or intentions of the original artist.

Up first is the ‘I-Robots 1977 Reconstruction’, which has just seen the original extended from 3:23 minutes to almost 7 minutes (all these reconstructions are long). The result is a fantastic thing that is now perfectly suited to club play with fulsome modern production, a revisited version that is a perfect reinterpretation maintaining the spirit of the ’77 original.

For the ‘I-Robots 2014 Tape Reconstruction’, the remixer had a dream that he found an old original Moroder tape in a flea market and used it to beef up this track. The addition of analog tape background noise gives the mix a dirty and dusty vintage sound and as such it now has a strong and powerful impact with infectious drums, frazzled synth lines and plenty of meaty disco dazzle.

Finally, The ‘I-Robots 2014 Reconstruction’ is the clean version of the Tape Reconstruction with a powerful tech-house beat underpinning it, making it the version most suited to heavy dancefloor usage.

The vinyl release includes only the 1977 and the 2014 Tape Reconstructions and is handled exclusively by Opilec Music.

SES1 set out what quality electro means for Shipwrec. The first in the series brought together six musicians from far and wide, musicians who journey through the colder edge of their analogue instruments with a clear ear for the floor. SES2 starts where its predecessor left off. The genre bending Ian Martin opens with the frigid funk of “Hyperstatic Transformation.” Stripped back, the track is bare in terms of its elements. Despite such meagre ingredients, Martin concocts an engaging and rich work of darkened grooves and sinister undercurrents. o-0._.0-o is the playful pseudonym of acid freetekno enthusiast Owen. His contribution, “Acidrobotik”, releases a free and wandering 303 lines that forges a bubbling path through crisp percussion. The flip brings an artist better known for his work in techno. Cliche Morph delves into the clinical side of his palette and emerges with the stunning “Placebo.” Balancing alienated and arctic blasts with a thawing warmth, the outcome is pure classic electro. A rising star of machine music follows, Fleck E.S.C. A dirty bassline is further sullied by layers of gritty distortion and glitched vocals in this re-wired work of ghetto. A legend of electronics closes, Kirill Junolainen. Under his lauded Konerytmi moniker, this synthesiser shapeshifter delivers “Kuva Alkio.” Stuttering bass and tight drums are the foundation from which sci-fi inspirations take hold, sailing strings tethered by a terse snare as SES2 is brought to a triumphal close.

Veteran Bristol-based producer Chris Jarman a.k.a. Kamikaze Space Programme joins the TRUST family with a blistering EP of hard-edged bass music. Hot on the heels of his 'Concrete Musique' EP for Luke Slater's Mote Evolver imprint, 'Stokes Croft' showcases the bassier side of Jarman's distinct production style. 

'Stokes Croft' opens with none other than prolific Ninja Tune artist Emika as a guest, whose haunting vocals turn 'Choke' into an ear-catching hybrid of industrial bass electro and gothic pop. 'Clapper' follows this up with a percussive banger, perfectly encapsulating Jarman's artistic vision of crafting futuristic beats entirely from found and self-recorded sounds rather than worn and tired presets. It's a philosophy that does not rule out sublime melodic moments either, as 'Cel's drifting string and melancholic bleeps aptly demonstrate, while 'HSBC' closes the EP with a nod to the old-school, complementing jacking electro rhythms with squelchy acid lines and ghostly pads. 

Released parallel to TRUST's three-part 15-year anniversary series, TRUST XV, Kamikaze Space Programme's 'Stokes Croft' represents the rougher side of the TRUST sound - head-strong, futuristic, and ready to obliterate stylistic stagnation with sonic innovation.

Chaos (Gab.Gato Remix)

R.i.O. welcomes Brainwave Research Center, a NYC-based duo consisting of house/techno producer Chase Smith and documentary filmmaker Christa Majoras. In early 2023 they freed their debut album “figure 1” via their own label BRC. Two more albums followed. All documenting their love for experimental yet charming music of all kinds.

Their influences span a vast spectrum, from Steve Reich, Laurie Spiegel, and Edgar Froese to Martin Rev, John Carpenter, early Kraftwerk, or the ambient techno of Pete Namlook’s Fax +49-69/45046 label. Yet, Brainwave Research Center forges a sound distinctly their own, seamlessly blending analog synthesis with electro-acoustic experimentation.

On “Psychic Antenna”, the duo takes a gentle rawer approach. The tracks range from the manic verbal Die-Tödliche-Doris-like loops of "I Find Myself" to the meditative cosmic trance of "Open Your Mouth." "Orange Drop" and "Transmitter Park" toy with the dancefloor, channeling slow-motion acid trance and krautrock echoes.

The release is rounded out by three remixes: R.i.O.’s own Benedikt Frey delivers a deep, trippy groover full of inner musicality, while close companion DALO crafts a dark, echo-drenched pop rework, and Berlin’s Nathan Dawidowicz injects psyched nu-disco rhythms, expanding “Psychic Antenna” into seven notions of intense neural oscillations.

Our next premiere comes to us from the Florida-based mastermind behind the Monotone imprint, @Exzakt. By now we all know who Exzakt is and the impact he has had on the Electro community with all his output both past and present, so I'll cut out the fluff and get right to the meat of the premiere.

This release marks Exzakt's first vinyl EP on Monotone since 2007 and is a collection of various tracks that have not been pressed on vinyl until now. These tracks were hand-selected by fans out of 17 tunes to chose from via an online poll.

The track selected by @DarkScienceElectro to premiere for the record is an emotional piece that you can tell from the title, Love Hate. Again, @Exzakt goes deep on this one but still keeps the beat pumping like his tracks often do. This track, for me, harkens back to the early days of Larry's work from when he helped to pioneer the Electrobass sound that has become a point of pride for Florida. This album will become available on the 28th of January.

Planet Euphorique continues to transcend boundaries and expectations with its lucky eighth release “Dream Portal”, a 4-track EP by Ronan.

The three tracks, plus a bonus remix from elusive, tech-wiz Reptant, were recorded over a two week period in Bogota, Colombia. Conjuring up vivid spectacles of a mysterious labyrinth; bodies unleashed and moving in unison. 

The title track, Dream Portal, unlocks the gateway via a dank, sway-worthy roller, equally menacing and eclipsing, paving the way for the A2 “Crystal Viewer" where propelling snares layer across delicate harmonic tension and spatial delay. Springing sub bass filling the low ends to complete the fusion of trance-licked breakbeat and ethereal techno. 

On the flip the situation continues to rise, Star Fissure delving into high-octane enlightened electro. Slick rolls and percussive fills make this a daring DJ’s dream. Kicks that feel like you’re being punched in the face, yet begging for more. Deep and driving, with delicate pads to take you into that elevated state. Meanwhile, the Reptant remix rolls up and lets you know it’s arrived. Attitude on tap, delivering lizard-tech to be teamed with a smoke machine on overdrive. Dripping bleeps and razored hi-hats to accentuate the originals’ naughty flair. 

“Dream Portal”; a glimpse into the subconscious vision of a raver’s fantasy. Four tracks ready and roaring for different moments in the club, home or a celestial outdoor get together.
