I believe all this violence will eventually push us forward, evolve us into more conscious beings. It's a slow hard process

These Two Wheels

A year ago I volunteered to create a through-the-mail songwriting course for American prisoners doing hard time. Many signed up to receive this course despite the fact that they had no access to instruments or even listening devices. Mostly I taught about the creative process and how to connect to a source of inspiration. For a final group project I provided a chorus and asked the participants to submit lyrics which would go along with the chorus "Pick it up, pick it up moooooove it. Pick it up, pick it up moooooooove it. Pick it up, pick it up, move it. Lines on my face......." I gave the instruction that they could imagine the rhythm as "123, gonna move a rubber tree." You see this rubber tree coming back in their lyrics here and there. Out of the 40 lyric responses, I put together the lyrics for these three verses plus all of the snippets which come in the middle section and at the end. I never knew their faces or their crimes, but we connected soul to soul with this project and I feel that their important words have been brought to life. I sang the main vocal and the other voices and chorus were performed by members of the Mary Lind Recovery Gospel Choir, beautiful people who have known their share of struggle and gave their spirits to this project. Pam T., Mama Trish, Sylvia B., Franzetta, Dru Love, Gary K. and Michael O, plus my brother, Geoff who's skills and connection made this possible. Devin Thomas engineered the chorus recordings plus my keyboard tracks, Moog bass recorded in Geoff's basement studio, drums, shakers, and Cajons by our childhood friend Malcolm Moore who I hadn't seen in over 30 years. Pick It Up

In 2013,  Luuk Bouwman and  Rafaël Rozendaal (Cold Void), approached Truus with a set of instrumental tracks.  Over a period of a few months of back and forward WAV file exchange they completed this 13 song album.  Their sound is deliciously minimal, ethereal yet brooding in nature. Established in 1978 by Truus de Groot in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, Plus Instruments' existence spans over the last 3 decades.  Starting by tinkering with toy and electronic instruments in her flat - amidst the explosion of Punk Rock. Even though Truus was very active in that genre and “New Wave” as well, the more experimental side gradually took over and the concept of Plus Instruments was born.
