// Side A // Evocation // calls forth an ambient, swirling soundscape that reaches deep and drives forever forward. The precise sub bass modulation and mid synth call and response will test the limits of any sound system. Tribal percussion hangs over the mix; a driving counterpoint to the minimal and strong half-time beat. The snare drum reaches through the groove, solidly and consistently, marking the framework of the rhythm.

// Side B // Monsoon // will envelop the listener in cascading, warm, reverb drenched sound waves. As the theme of the track fades in, the drums start hitting like drops of rain. Unrelenting.
This is music for those moments when you decide to turn and face the storm.

￼Quantum Soul is a veteran UK dubstep and dub producer with a discography spanning over 7 years. His dubstep sound is rooted in dub, world and electronic music and his DJ sets chart some of the deeper recesses music has to offer.

QS has released on numerous legendary labels: from Ranking Records, Dubting and Dubbed Out, to Boxclever, with a collaborative project he formed with Ruckspin, Octane and DLR called 'Cymatic'. In 2012 he signed an EP with Tribe 12, laying the foundation for his future involvement with WhoDemSound. In 2013 he worked with Innamind Recordings to bring out 'Strong Root', which had extensive support from DJ Youngsta. Releases with Pressed Records, Tuba NYC, Mindstep, FKOF and Mantra followed in 2014, culminating in his first strictly dub release with WhoDemSound.

He has had regular DJ support from Sub.fm's Syte and BunZer0, as well as Joe Nice, Vivek, J:Kenzo and DJ Youngsta.

With more releases forthcoming he continues to be a source of thought-provoking and speaker-shaking bass music.

TUBA 009 :: Quantum Soul - Evocation / Monsoon [OUT NOW]

TUBA 010 introduces the duo Folding City, true bass mystics from New York and British Columbia (@Blind-Prophet & @Self_Evident). Their alchemic-like collaborations span tempos but consistently exhibit creativity sincerely and uniquely. The Ice Riddim EP presents three tracks by this bi-coastal crew, along with a remix by Doctor Jeep, who is also making his debut on TUBA.

A1. Ice Riddim opens and immediately lays out the framework of the beat, defined by a confident and cold snare drum. The groove is accented with dub flourishes, amazing textural touches, and lyrical drum fills. The bass line, pads and stabs blend into a mosaic of left-field minimalism.

A2. The tempo goes up with Groundswell. At 160 bpm Folding City has combined strains of dread vibes and footwork with serious results.  The deep resonate kick drum charges ahead while whispers of breakbeats are laced throughout the mix, tempered at times with lush, evocative pads. This one will light up the dance.

B1. Spacewalk, Folding City’s soulful, dark and devastatingly serious track starts the b side. The vocal sample guides the listener through broken drum phrases and modulated synthesizer melodies, with tension held and suspended throughout the arrangement.

B2. The EP closes with a 140 bpm remix from New York’s Doctor Jeep. By bringing in drum breaks and bass lines reminiscent of early jungle and drum and bass, his take on Spacewalk is a true departure from the original and still relates well to the rest of the record.

Allusions is an exploration of the musical side of bass music with a distinct west coast twist. The album features collaborations with Bay Area dubstep don Dubsworth, MC Ill Chill, and the UK’s Talabun on the mic. The record closes with The Light featuring noted Bay Area jazz vocalist Rachel Mazer. 

The collection of tracks presents an authentic fusion of reggae, jazz, dub, and deep dubstep. Thoughtful lyrics, emotional impact and pristine music production are all hallmarks. 

Subtle Mind is a dubstep duo based in LA by way of the Bay Area. They began producing tracks in 2010 and have since been supported by Joe Nice, Truth, Gantz, BunZer0, DJ Chefal, and Bakir. Support that has culminated in their first international appearance at the quintessential bass music Mecca: the Outlook Festival in Pula, Croatia

Subtle Mind became known around the world in 2013 with the release of “Gravitate” (TUBAd 004). The EP earned critical acclaim, being called “forward thinking bass science” by Juno, and was said to posses “a strong connection between both harmonically and melodically-driven music, and the percussive sound system testing sounds of reggae and dub” by FatKidOnFire. 
Releases have followed on Surfase Records, Dubs Alive, and Deep Heads.

Denmark’s RDG follows his 2014 TUBA NYC EP with the 12” single, Solutions. The A-side fuses the deliberate, dramatic, and impressive lyrics from L.A.’s Ill Chill with bone chilling sub bass modulations and huge cavernous beats.The tone gets even darker on the B-side with Reverse Blank, a pulsing, stabby warehouse-shattering dropper. Cold mid frequency stabs masterfully drenched in reverb ring out alongside stacked drum hits. Gaze Ill gets the co-production credit with Cessman jumping on the buttons to finish this one off. Mesmerizing!

Born and raised in the cold northern Danish countryside, RDG was introduced to music from an early age through his father, and spent years as a kid collecting samples, playing with musical toys or listening to records.With his relocation to Copenhagen as a teenager, RDG immediately dove into the underground music scene and heavily involved himself in music production, organized underground raves and put on nights at bars and clubs to further promote local producers, MCs and DJs. 

Fast forward ten years and Ruben now successfully runs two record labels with over 40 releases combined, and has organized events at essentially every night club with a noteworthy soundsystem in Copenhagen, across multiple genres like dubstep, drum 'n' bass, techno, juke, garage, grime and many more. As a producer and DJ he has released and appeared on a handful of vinyl releases, toured North America and Europe, and has had his music featured on major public and pirate radio in the UK, US and Denmark.
