TULM is a ‘multi artistic collaboration’ born in Northern France in the city of Rouen. The two founding members are singer and lyric writer Marion-Kayleigh and her father Chris Payne, a professional composer, producer and former member of GARY NUMAN, VISAGE, and CELTIC LEGEND.

TULM has its own unique definition and fights the idea of being trapped in a certain genre. The first EP called ‘Flower Crown’ expresses itself through different languages using English, Latin and even Esperanto, and planned future recordings will add Russian and French to the equation.
 Part of the philosophy is to allow artists to express themselves in their own language and in the case of Latin and Esperanto simply enjoy the sonorities of a beautifully constructed language that lends itself perfectly to singing.
This same freedom is given to the music as each song is created with a rich audio tapestry of sound, allowing the story to come alive. To achieve this instruments range from all manner of synthesis to violin, ocarina, bamboo flute, Tibetan bowl, piano, treated and warped strings, and Jules Boulets amazing Shamanic drum!

Since her childhood Marion-Kayleigh had been raised with a mixture of her fathers Cornish Celtic ancestry and her mothers Norman Viking roots.  She was constantly inventing stories and short plays as a child and her creative nature led her on many journeys through music, photography, dance and art. 
After a period of distressing events in her life she has found a way of expressing her feelings through working on TULM and this has had real positive therapeutic effect on her. Her father also feels that the project has given him a different way of thinking and approaching music, and has been an amazing cathartic experience for him as well. He described it as “Creating film music without the film! Just your imagination”
 Other family members were involved as well, with her sister Anouchka contributing on guitar and her mother Dominque Hemard on chorus vocals.

Flower Crown is an EP that lyrically deals with birth and death, dreams and nightmares, light and darkness through fairytales and folklore that Marion-Kayleigh was always passionate to tell and create as a small child. Witches, gods, wolves, saints, myths, rituals, spirituality, religions, beliefs, weird creatures etc. are all seen from a different point of view. Like the essence of  these stories TULM’s music is surrounded by darkness but will always have hope and a moral lesson to be learned. But, this project isn’t just about the music. Many different artists are involved and invited to create and unleash their spirit under the TULM banner. The songs are the root of TULM’s identity but it will only flourish with the work of others as well as the writers.

Through Flower Crown the band has had the pleasure of working with film and video production company ‘Norman Coast’ to create in film the story behind the song, and also with ‘Les Aconits de Médee’ and their beautiful crowns. Betta Kore with the creations, Sebastien Picques ‘amazing eye’ and photography, Isaline for the wonderful costumes, and Myriam Lepretre the incredible make up.

The band states that these collaborations are growing and that they will keep creating with as many artistic people as possible to give life to TULMs world. The project has already reunited many people, the songs, the feelings and emotions come through with this collaboration resulting in a hopefully unique musical and cinematic way.
 Marion-Kayleigh and Chris are passionate about building something beautiful and positive with their time together on this project. Flower Crown the EP has been like a ‘musical therapy for all involved as through Marion-Kayleigh it has brought together a group of disparate artists in one common creative goal.

 TULM’s music is enchanting and will take you into its own universe, where you might recognise yourself to be the main character.
