Music is colorful, diverse and vibrant as the butterflies. Almost 180,000 different species live in 127 families. The music by Boris Brejcha is like a "Feuerfalter" (copper). On one side the butterfly is relaxing and floating on the wind, but on the other hand he also sets with steam and fire to a fall into a low altitude. This is how it feels when Brejcha makes music.

The fourth album is exactly the description of this "Feuerfalter", a kind of backflash into the impressive career of Boris Brejcha. An album that deliberately shows how the artist works versatile. Times slightly floating, sometimes wild hitting the wing, always full of passion. The influences of his travelings and performances characterize his art again.

This creates a music that may be accompanied on Brejchas audience the whole day: at home, in a relaxed atmosphere or just at night, when the trip through the clubs starts. On the album "Feuerfalter" this individuality is turned on. Brejcha even picks up the desire of his ans to weave a few quieter tracks into his cosmos.

Fun projects need to be shared. In this case I like to give away my newest fun project - I did in my free time. Hashtag is a combination of five elements in one track. With the focus on a snare drum roll, a upward pitching part, a melody, a fat baseline and acid elements. Acid in that case means, crazy sounds in a groovy beat. Hope you like it - have fun.

Foremost international techno outlet Drumcode is delighted to announce the release of its next full-length album, ‘Satellite’, by enduring Italian techno talent Sam Paganini.

Though he has been active since the mid nineties, recent years have been hugely successful for Sam, with searing techno EPs coming on revered labels such as Riche Hawtin’s Plus8, Sven Vath’s Cocoon and of course, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. In his time he has been responsible for underground hits like ‘Zoe’, ‘Polyester’ and ‘Fire In My Arms’, all of which demonstrate his dynamic understanding of sexy, dark and hypnotic techno grooves and at the same time have earned him plenty of great Beatport chart positions as well as respect from the best in the game.

Incredibly, ‘Satellite’ is Sam’s first full-length album. Informed by his DJ gigs at legendary places like Berghain in Berlin and Cielo in New York, the album starts with a dystopian bit of sonic scene setting, as if a space ship is charging up ready to take off.

From there it’s a case of getting straight down to business. ‘Another Chance’ is a spacey bit of cantering techno and ‘White’ is rooted in devastating kick drums and is riddled with serrated synth lines that build lots of great techno pressure. ‘Down’ is an undulating bit of funky techno complete with choice vocal flourishes and tracks like ‘Lotus’ are prime offerings from the deeper end of the scale.

No two tracks sound the same on Satellite: Sam is always teasing out a new bit of texture, nailing a slightly different vibe or exploring different amounts of light and dark throughout the course of this most excellent album. This is evidenced by diverse cuts like ‘Dusty’, ‘Toxic’ and ‘Rave’.

Despite ‘Satellite’ being Sam’s debut album, it showcases his seductive style in all its glory across 12 fantastic tracks that will leave you begging for more.

In the spring of 2017 Doza (Carlos Mendoza) was combing the the beach of Inapupan, a small island in the Philippines, when he saw something both strange and familiar: a weathered bit of shell peaking out of the sand with orange and ivory tiger stripes. He recognized it as the armor of a nautilus, one of the planet's oldest and deepest-diving animals. He held it in his hand, imagining the bioluminescent monsters it’s creator might have witnessed during its dark, cold dives. “Nautilus” is a latin word derived from the ancient greek “nautilo” meaning “sailor.” A sailor himself, Doza arrived home inspired to soundtrack this creature’s funky nautical journey. Electronic musicians today have access to a vast ocean of sounds from soft-synths, soft-samplers, mobile apps, boutique hardware and modular synths. When Dozabegan making music in the late 90s as half of LawnChair Generals (with Peter Christianson), the equipment available was expensive and cumbersome by today’s standard. In a way those limitations were a blessing in that they forced the Generals to extract asmuch function and creativity out of each piece of equipment as possible, and to learn their instruments inside and out. To stay focused on The Nautilus, Doza eschewed soft-synths and complicated outboard set-ups for the sounds from one of his first pieces of equipment, the PC2x. This tank-like stage keyboard was created in 2001 by Kurzweil Music Systems, a company founded by renowned futurist Raymond Kurzweil and Stevie Wonder (yes, that Stevie Wonder).Although short on sounds relative to other larger keyboards of the time, the PC2x has the famous Variable Architecture Synthesis Technology (V.A.S.T.) and, in the hands of a tinkerer, is capable of morphing, organic, other-worldly tones. The result of this self-limited production technique applied to the deep-sea daydream is The Nautilus, an immersive dance floor voyage complete with evolving drones, pitching and swelling textures, and growling encounters in a swirled up auditory expanse. All of this sits atop a disco-tech structure and latin battery that is vintage Doza, supporting a locomotive synth bassline that dives and rises again like the intrepid little creature of the deep that inspired it.

The third Realm Of Consciousness compilation on Tale Of Us’ Afterlife Recordings is the label’s most complete statement so far.

The four-vinyl opus opens with Tale Of Us’ now anthemic ‘Nova’, a high-impact and well-loved staple of their sets this year. Agents Of Time continue with the percussive rattle of ‘Paradigm’, before the first released collaboration between luminaries Recondite and Henrik Schwarz shines with understated melody.

Amongst Mind Against’s eerie masterpiece ‘Portal’ and impressive first appearances on Afterlife from Scuba (as SCB) and Steve Rachmad (as Sterac) are ethereal contributions from Fideles, Ovend and Øostil. UK techno veteran Edit Select channels the darker, hypnotic spirit of Afterlife with ‘Phase In’, setting up the sprawling, 14-minute epic from Luigi Tozzi and Antonio Ruscito.

To begin the compilation’s fourth disc, Konstantin Sibold & Kosme’s ‘Cyclone’ lifts the tone, leading into a more introspective sound from Hunter/Game on ‘Changing Weather’. Upcoming German talent Kevin De Vries follows with his infectious cut ‘Mágoa’ and Tone Depth ends the odyssey in mesmerising style with ‘Ibn Sina’.

It doesn’t get much bigger than this: Adam Beyer links up with Green Velvet and Drumcode’s outstanding rising star Layton Giordani for a debut collaboration.

Some musical partnerships feel fated. Both fans of one another’s work, for years Adam Beyer and Green Velvet had discussed writing music together. In turn, Beyer’s protégé Layton Giordani had admired the Chicagoan’s work for as long as he could remember. When the 25-year-old found himself playing alongside the green mohawked legend at Belfast’s Shine, the spark and subsequent friendship was immediate. With the links now set in place, it was only a matter of time before the trio’s creative chemistry would manifest musically.

‘Space Date’ was conceived organically and birthed quickly. Propelled by Green Velvet’s trademark vocal hypnotism, the triumvirate combine to craft a pumping intergalactic slice of techno laced in melody that’s highlighted sets by Beyer at Awakenings, Ushuaia and also EDC Vegas when Green Velvet dropped it to a raucous response. The track is complimented by ‘Rome Future’, the product of a year-long series of productions between Beyer and Giordani. Deftly combining crisp drum work, catchy vocal effects and a powerful bassline melody that gives the track an almighty kick, it will be familiar to many who’ve followed their sets over recent months.

Two contrasting remixes of ‘Space Date’ come courtesy of Pleasurekraft and John Monkman, as the three-way collaboration between Adam Beyer, Layton Giordani and Green Velvet continues to thrill. Joining the strong reworks is an unexpected treat for fans; a last-minute inclusion of a fresh new original track from the trio.

Drumcode got its first taste of Pleasurekraft’s unique production touch in 2016 when ‘Dopefield’ dropped on ‘A-Sides Vol.5’. The Swedish/American duo’s exploration of cosmic techno realms made them the ideal candidates to re-work ‘Space Date’. Their contribution is as visceral as they come; defined by a hypnotic vocal arrangement, a stirring call and response melody and propulsive galloping beats fashioned for peak-time moments. No surprise it was a highlight of Adam Beyer’s Ultra Resistance sets and gobsmacked Maceo Plex who requested a promo to play at Time Warp a week later.

Meanwhile Drumcode debutant John Monkman steps up with a very different, but not less deadly reinterpretation of ‘Space Date’. The Brit has impressed in recent times with strong releases on Ellum, Kompakt and his own Beesemyer imprint, and takes this form into DC207. His is a twisted intergalactic re-rub drenched in warped electro, blistering modular sounds and touches of IDM that manages the difficult task of taking the original to darker, more leftfield realms without ever losing its powerful dancefloor pulse. 

A new collaborative work ‘Data Point’ joins the pack, only completed by the trio of Beyer, Giordani and Green Velvet in late May in time for the Drumcode boss to drop it at IMS Dalt Villa during the sunset slot with Ida Engberg.
