Dies Irae — "The Day of Wrath" — draws its name and inspiration from the iconic medieval Latin hymn that envisions the Last Judgment: a cataclysmic reckoning where the trumpet sounds, the dead rise, and every soul stands trial before an all-powerful Judge. Traditionally sung at Catholic Requiem Masses, this ancient text has haunted Western music and imagination for centuries, inspiring giants like Mozart and Verdi to transform it into timeless works of art.

This reinterpretation takes a more critical and personal path. Rather than presenting the full, fire-and-brimstone narrative, the track distills the original into select verses — fragments that echo through the music like distant voices from a troubled past. The piece challenges the deeply rooted notion of God as a merciless arbiter, replacing fear with reflection. In doing so, it questions how such doctrines have shaped our inner world — replacing love with dread, grace with guilt.

The composition opens and closes with solemn church organ passages, framing the piece like the arches of a ruined cathedral. The final organ reprise, however, carries a subtle shift — a glimmer of hope, as if the weight of centuries-old judgment might finally give way to something more compassionate.

During my teenage years, I composed quite diligently, creating many themes and tracks for my own enjoyment on my old Yamaha keyboard. However, that ended abruptly when I reached my twenties. I bought a new keyboard (the old one had broken down — a very sad moment), more advanced and expensive, but somehow I wasn’t able to do much with it, almost as if the magic was lost. That hiatus lasted a decade.
It was not a wasted decade, though, because I plunged deeply into listening to 18th- and 19th-century classical music, refining my taste and shaping my own musical identity.
The main theme of this Rondo somehow heralded a new era of composing. During a boring meeting with some association committee 7-8 years ago, my mind drifted far away, and the theme just appeared out of nowhere, almost completely fleshed out.
It was then that I became certain it was time to return to music.  Last month I've finally felt obliged to do a proper honour to the melody and to build a piece around it.

A cosmic comedy with a twist: William Herschel, who discovered Uranus in 1781, was also a musician - so we’re in good company. The Beating Edge shares his love for both music and the stars. Dropping late August, this track is perfect for summer nights under the stars (and cracking a few cosmic jokes). Look up… and remember: it's just a planet!
💫 Poetic license alert: we know Uranus isn’t actually shining bright in the night sky, it’s almost invisible to the naked eye. To spot it, you’d need binoculars or a small telescope, and a really dark location, definitely not in the city.
💫 Bonus: you don’t need a telescope to enjoy it, but laughing is mandatory!

Suppressed historical facts about the Neckar region:
In addition to southern Hessen and the Franconian region, Baden and northern Württemberg are also among the regions in which there were documented attacks on humans by frogs, salamanders and toads between the end of the 15th century and the 1530s. In the villages of Neckarzimmern, Haßmersheim and Neckarmühlbach alone, there were 21 attacks in 1524, resulting in a total of thirteen deaths among the inhabitants, seven of whom were children of kindergarten or primary school age.
In 1531, the town chronicle of Eberbach reports of regular hunts by frogs and amphibians with sticks and stones on the inhabitants of Eberbach and Hirschhorn in meadows and marshes in “considerable” numbers, in which there were “again many victims to mourn”.

Remarkably, these facts remained completely unknown for a long time. The reason for this can be cited as the efforts of the local associations, which were tightly run by the National Socialists from 1933 to 1956, to falsify history through book burnings, denial campaigns and deliberate misdirection in order to establish, reinforce and nourish the legend of the Aryan and thus invincible superhuman.
