It's been 21 months since our last party at our London residence, the Ministry of Sound. So to say we are super excited to return home and celebrate our 12th birthday is an understatement. ❤️🎯
Saturday the 27th of November will mark 12 years since the birth of our Groove Odyssey brand, and it's only right to say we are the proud parents who have watched it grow into being established as the UK's premier Soulful House night.
We've continued to put on Groove Odyssey events worldwide at the highest level, and our 12th birthday will be no exception as we give you some heavyweight DJs from the House music arena. Joining us on the night ​will be ​the Legendary Dave Lee from Z records and from Quantize the mighty DJ Spen, residents Bobby & Steve, Atjazz, Billy Cocks, Sol Brown, DJ Bigger, Lloyd Life, Mr Buzzhard and Miss Rae with birthday sets from David Bailey & Davide Fiorese + many more artist over four rooms of music.

Billy Cocks Groove Odyssey 12TH Birthday Mix

we started 2014 with 5 gigs in the first 2 days and the final one was at the legendary Revolver in one of our favourite cities; Melbourne. Pretty much everyone who’s been to Melbourne has at least one Revolver story! Apart from a few hours on a Saturday afternoon they’re open non stop all weekend, it’s an ace dark space to get lost in, a touch of Berlin maybe. Despite being a little weary we were buzzing to see so many people still out from NYE alongside some fresh faces too, and with a great dancefloor vibe going on we decided to record our set, enjoy.

This week on the Cadenza Source to Cycle podcast, we welcome Oxia, AKA Olivier Raymond.  

The French-born producer, DJ and live performer has had an illustrious career since the mid 1990s, recording for a variety of labels under the Oxia name, including the labels he co-founded, Ozone Records and GoodLife, as well as for international imprints such as Kompakt Extra (the classic ‘Domino’ track from 2006), Tsuba, Infine, 8Bit and Saved.  He has also collaborated with many other artists over the year, including work with Agoria for Visionquest, and Nicolas Masseyeff for Noir Music.

Raw Vibez EP contains four dancefloor oriented tracks, largely inspired by the early 90's NY / New Jersey house music sound.
Soulful chords and melodic piano sequences backed up with spoken sampled vocal is the domain of EP's opening track - "Make the Change". Groovy drums and funky basslinecombined withdeepunderground feeling - that's amix that always guarantees success on the dancefloor.

"NY Jukebox" is a blend of garage beats with punchy bass, chopped up vocals and repetitive melody composed with sampled chords, that can put listeners into a party mood easily. Funky vibe with catchy melody and shuffling percussion sets in motion all fans of truly underground dance music.
The last track, splitted into two parts "Raw Vibez Part I & II" is much more darker composition. Both parts are tribute to the roots of house and techno music. Raw 909 beat, deep bass , dirty organ samples, high pitched strings and classic synthesizer sounds from the previous era is what makes these tunes feel like a "classic" dancefloorkiller tracksfrom back in the days. Plain old school with a modern twist - this is how one could easily describe it. Does the damage everytime it's dropped - both tracksputs the whole party into a deep hypnotic state.
All tracks on the EP share a common thing: strong references to the true roots of underground house music. Fans of that kind of sound shouldn't be disappointed.

Ok so here is the Underground Session internet show that I did on Friday evening with the one and only DE SLUWE VOS from Local Talk/Slapfunk/Raw equipment. To all those that missed out here's another chance to download and here what we were doing for just over 2 hrs which consisted of drinking lots and having fun so hence the excitement at times on the mic while I was hosting.

Something I will never forget having one of my house heroes in my apartment spinning live with me and combining our musical preferences as one... the feedback has been amazing so far and many would love to see us playing together in the clubworld which I am sure will happen at some point this year :))
