Metroid Prime - Phendrana Drifts

Who doesn't love Metroid Prime? I remember getting the game as a Christmas gift back in 2002. Amazing game that still holds up even today. The music, in particular, has always been a highlight for me. Hearing the music when exploring Phendrana Drifts in-game was quite an experience and a definite highlight. I always wanted to do my own arrangement of this. Decided to take a different approach with this one.

Super Mario World

In the spirit of Halloween, I decided to do an arrangement of the ghost house theme from Super Mario World. Originally, I did not want to do it as I didn't know what I can do differently that no one else has already done. I like to take different approaches for my arrangements as much as possible. I then thought about combining the vibe of the Halloween theme (film) and adding that approach with the ghost house theme. I really want to give listeners an uneasy feeling when listening to this. This is my first official anime arrangement! Big fan of the Tokyo Ghoul series (manga and anime). After hearing the music in episode 2 of season 2, I knew this had to be the first arrangement to tackle. And of course, I had to put a different spin on it. What started out as a simple guitar outline, this blossomed into this final version all thanks to my collaborators. This arrangement was done before the official version came out so the lyrics are not 100% accurate. Nonetheless, I'm happy with how it turned out!

Animal Crossing: City Folk 

Decided to tackle one of my favorite tunes from Animal Crossing: City Folk. If you're looking for relaxing Nintendo music on YouTube, chances are you'll find "1 AM" from City Folk as part of a huge playlist and for good reason! It's so good and the same goes for other favorites such as 1 AM and 7 PM from New Leaf. As with all my arrangements, I love taking a simple and short video game tune and expand it to 3 or more minutes. It's a fun challenge trying to keep it interesting for that long. I like blending orchestral elements (my film composer side) with more electronic/hybrid colors. I really hope you dig it. Who's excited for the new game coming out 2019?!

Sonic Colors

I had a ton of fun work on this one. I chose this particular theme because it’s one of my favorites from Sonic Colors. The whole soundtrack for that game is amazing! I wanted to approach this track differently than all the other ones I’ve done so far. I used a Marantz PMD 430 (cassette recorder) to run 90% of the instruments used. The result is a super LoFi sound. The performances also have a raw and live feel to it because that was the mindset I had while recording. I didn’t have anything really set in stone except for the song structure - most of my parts were improvised on the spot (mistakes and all). I also had Joni and RVCHL improvise and just run with it in certain sections - to capture the “live band” setting. Really happy with the results!

Metroid Prime

That time of the year again. Halloween is almost here! Last year I did a creepy arrangement of Ghost Theme from Super Mario World. This year it's the Space Pirates Battle theme. When I first played Metroid Prime, this track always gave me an uneasy feeling. My approach this time around was pretty simple. How would I score the track for Metroid Prime 4? This is a more cinematic approach and again I get to flex my film composer muscles. I got to collaborate with DMAC Sound and it was a real treat. I gave him general directions as far as vibes and he knocked it out of the park. Really happy with how it all came together.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Sorry for the delay, my friends! Been busy working on my upcoming EP (out mid-Feb), but got a chance to work on my first arrangement of this year. I remember when I first heard this tune in-game. It was stuck in my head for weeks. A simply harp more or less repeating the same phrase throughout, strings swelling in and out, and the sound of marching drums. Great stuff. This arrangement is sort of a medley in a way since I incorporate Fi’s theme as well as Zelda’s throughout. The funny thing is I actually arranged both of their themes before (links below if you haven’t heard them yet). As with all my arrangements, I got to add my own twist to it. I hope you dig this one. Next arrangement should be out February - a Kingdom Hearts medley! Should be fun. :)

Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future

Hello, friends! I was involved in another tribute album by the Pixel Mixers Community. I grew up playing the Ecco the Dolphin games so this one was a no brainer to be a part of. I normally don't like arranging ambient tracks because they're difficult to make your own without just doing a straight-up cover (something I avoid). So this was a bit of a challenge, but I'm happy with how it turned out. I got to be very experimental with this track. I used live dolphin sounds too. Hello, friends! Sorry for the delay in any new music. These past few months have kept me busy with film score work. I also needed a little break. I have a couple of cool film/series scoring work next year (some I'm sure you'll dig). I can't say what they are quite yet, but I'll share more news on Twitter as they come. For now, I hope you enjoy this arrangement. I love this track from the game! To be honest, the second part of this track from the original did not move me as much as the first part.
