Anja Schneider further demonstrates her creative versatility and musical evolution with ‘Aura’ - a collaboration with singer/songwriter Sophie Hunger. 

The relationship between the pair goes back to Anja remixing the track ‘There Is Still Pain Left’ from Hunger’s 2018 album ‘Molecules’. A track which slipped under the radar through 2019 but enjoyed a resurgence in the second half of 2020 with a number of radio plays from stations desperate for music which fitted the more thoughtful, slower pace of lockdown life. This unforeseen consequence relit a creative spark. Conversations happened between the two Berlin-based talents and the idea for ‘Aura’ was born.  

Despite living in the same city, the collaboration was recorded remotely between the Blackhead Studios where Schneider is based, and Hunger’s apartment kitchen-come-studio. Despite this physical separation ‘Aura’ oozes emotional resonance. Hunger’s lyrics shimmering with an intense yet fragile quality over Schneider’s deeply felt melancholic soundscape. A joint expression unashamedly coloured and shaped by the shared experience of living through a typically brutal Berlin winter during continuous pandemic lockdown. Feelings spelt out by the lyrics in ‘Aura’

2021 has seen Marsh release on Joris Voorn’s label Spectrum, remix the likes of Eli & Fur and Dosem, and receive support from BBC Radio 1, SiriusXM Chill and Kiss FM to name a few.

You can catch Marsh on the on the Anjunadeep On Rotation North-American tour and at Printworks for Anjunadeep’s London showcase on December 11th.

Isolée’s Arrival

When three people run a label together it is exceptionally rare to find a positive unified opinion of a record upon first listen. When Isolée sent his "Mangroove" EP to Maeve, this was in fact what happened. But it is Isolée after all....

Mangroove came about last summer when The Drifter happened to catch Isolée's live set at a festival in Switzerland. Instantly blown away by the A side "Pisco" he was determined to find out what it was and if it was to be released. After chatting, Isolée suggested that he would send "Pisco" along with a couple of other "demos" to Maeve and a few days later the EP was happening.

Isolée has created some of the most important and beautiful records of our generation and has being a huge influence on what we do, thus we are incredibly excited and humbled to release his work.

This three track EP shows several different sides of the Frankfurt native, from the A-side dance floor catalyst that is "Pisco" to the deeper dubbier B-sides of "L5 Syndrome" and "Mangrove". This is the perfect record to mark our tenth release.

Leading Mexican label Duro welcome countryman Rigopolar for four of his fantastically expansive and expressive disco tunes.

The now US based Rigopolar is a cosmic explorer and space sound aficionado with credits on the likes of Tom Tom Disco dating back five or so years. His mix of disco and techno has taken him to gigs round the world, podcasts for Soma and remixes on the likes of Beat is Murder.

Brilliant opener ‘Black Mantis’ is a spooky cut with a mysterious lead that takes you into a mystic forest. The drums move things on as sci-fi sounds and withering synths add details to this most evocative musical story. ‘Espiral’ is a colourful, psychedelic scandi-disco classic with looping arps taking you ever further into the stars. Its craftsmanship is second to none as it draws you deeper and deeper in.

The scintillating ‘Time’ is another lush cut with plenty of glistening and glowing synths. Always ascending through the mix, they lift your spirits and hands in equal measure while the deeper drums keep your feet moving. Last of all is ‘Crashes’, a slower and more melancholic track that is paired back to a steamy vocal and rolling drums. A poignant one-finger melody brings tenderness to this brilliantly introspective closer.

This is an exceptional trip though timeless disco with a difference.
