“Taking inspiration from a footnote of an Oliver Sacks book, lyrically this explores the phenomenon of musical hallucinations. As I was piecing the lyrics together I quickly realised that in this “a brain storm” is a metaphor for a misunderstood, long term condition with varying degrees of ever changing intensity; Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome definitely inspired my lyric writing for this song (kindly follow the link to the HEDS society in my bio to learn more. Thank you). Leaning into the nostalgic live basement recording sounds of 1990’s alternative music there is definitely a Wheatus, Green Day, Third Eye Blind sound and it gets a little The Cure in places on this one. I also wanted the scrapbook sounds of “Save Rock and Roll” era Fall Out Boy.”

All material - cut, altered, mixed at will - comes from a nocturnal solo improvisation with fretless acoustic bass guitar with piezo pickup, effect pedals (Carcosa - Dark Star - Obscura), non synchronized loops, three amps. Recorded in the room with Zoom H2n, edited in Audacity. All sounds made with the instrument. All sounds, mixing and production: Velvet Something Superdark.

Dark Flower Dream

While waiting for the next tracks, which are a long time coming, two field recordings made in Vietnam with some very special animals!...
I recorded these incredible bird songs very quickly in the mangroves of Tra Su, in the Mekong Delta. Unfortunately, there is background noise on the tape, and I was only able to recover 1 min 20 of listenable sound. But the recording conditions were very complicated, especially because of the dozens of mosquitoes biting me while I was struggling with my recorder! I have no idea what these birds are, if anyone recognizes their song, please share in the comments!

J'ai enregistré ces incroyables chants d'oiseaux très rapidement dans les mangroves de Tra Su, dans le delta du Mékong. Malheureusement, il y a des bruits parasites sur la bande, et je n'ai pu récupérer que 1 min 20 de son écoutable. Mais les conditions d'enregistrement étaient très compliquées, notamment à cause des dizaines de moustiques qui me piquaient pendant que je me débattais avec mon enregistreur ! Je n'ai aucune idée de ce que sont ces oiseaux, si quelqu'un reconnaît leur chant, n'hésitez pas à partager dans les commentaires !

This is the final track in the Jedi themed album. In this track I'm thinking of how Vader turned back. I'm considering how ObiWan becomes that all powerful influence even though he's dead. Maybe when we die, a pure intentional spirit of sorts is whats left in the grievers head becoming that light. If I compare that feeling to people I've lost in my life, choices always align with what they would want for me and that's generally a well grounded point of view. I know I'm creating that myself but in the light of their spirit, maybe it makes decisions a little more pure.

I'm also thinking about how the power of love for his child eventually overpowered the infatuation he had to bring his love back to life. Another metaphor for how our priorities can get lost in loving or hating something that we let matter maybe more then it should. Our kids are what matter for everyone's future and thats a beautiful thing to reiterate in my own head through this song and album.

To switch off thought in Sanskrit, several mantras and phrases can be used.
"Om Shanti Shanti Shanti" (ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः), meaning "Om, peace, peace, peace," is a common mantra for promoting inner peace and tranquility.

Another powerful mantra is the Gayatri Mantra, which is a prayer for enlightenment and wisdom, starting with
"Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah" (ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः). 

Additionally,
"Aatma jnaanam param shaastram"
(आत्मज्ञानं परम शास्त्रं), meaning "Self-knowledge highest science," can be used to focus on self-awareness and thought termination.

Our own mind 🧬🎶 We can choose to walk with the fascists or we can be at one with ourselves to be at one with everything and everyone else. The more of us that find that place we cut the head off the fascists the right way. With inner peace 🕊️ Let's not let them win. Maybe let's lose absolute beliefs no matter how good we think they are, they still impose a non evolving truth. Inner peace being an absolute goal just finds your truth not what some other clown told you to believe yesterday or 2000 years ago. We can choose to absorb and re project the conscientiousness and moral value from any human that exists or has existed but maybe let's stop putting them on pedatals. They are and were just humans like you and me

🪶 Back from the Dark 🪶

One of the challenges of using stretching software is that it can produce pleasing, even thrilling results with only a little tweaking. Dear old Audacity doesn't stretch sound so much as pull it apart; cracks begin to appear, as in perished rubber.
This wasn't an experiment in the scientific sense, more a bit of "let's see" fun...

A ten second random sample was taken from a random track of a random work. It was down-tempoed (rather than stretched) to produce Track 1, lasting 5 minutes.
A 10-second sample of Track 1 was similarly treated to produce Track 2. This then produced Track 3, and that produced Track 4. Each finished track was 5 minutes long. By this time we are into the original sample by a mathematical factor I was too tired (and mathematically inept) to calculate. Surprisingly the last tracks sound very similar, probably due to software limitations.

What you hear: 10 seconds of each track, in order. Then Track 1, with Track 2 faded in at 1:15.Track 3 is faded in at 1:45 and Track 4 at 2:05. All tracks are now running.
At 3:25 echo is applied to Track 1. At 3:45 delay is applied to Track 2. At 4:15 Reverb is applied to Track 3 and at 4:35 phasing is applied to Track 4. The resulting mess runs to the end, which ends with a faint echo from the delayed track.
All of which seems to prove very little, but shows that even a harsh Industrial noise can contain increasing layers of sound and effects. Can’t wait to play with these sounds in other ways. :)))

I've become addicted to drone. Again. I was the kid with his head on the piano, listening to the overtones die away, or pressing his ear to the steel hull of the ferry, enthralled by the sounds it created. I was the kid who formed wordless songs to accompany the sound of train wheels on a long journey, or hummed along with the fan on a hot day.

In the 60s I used to play my 45s on 16, or backwards, or by hand using razor blades as stylii.

I made cut-up tapes on a cheap cassette recorder in the 70s and experimented with reel-to-reel in the 80s.
