Guess I shouldn't have deleted this one from my account… here it is again… I dedicate it to all people who, like me, love Ligeti, Stockhausen, Schönberg, Webern, Boulez, Bartók, Berg and so on, love equally Miles and Trane and Sanders and Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock and Joel Ross and love equally Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Prince, Co Shu Nie, Bjork, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Sting …and love Bach and Mozart and Josquin and Chopin… and besides love the music of the Gbaya, and Gamelan, and Japanese traditional music… why should we feel confined to ANY genre?

Disquiet Junto Project 0221: Morning Music

I clipped the end off a track I'm working on, reversed it and played around with timing and reverb. The idea of waking up to a drone possibly strikes some people as a novel one... :)

The Assignment: Compose something — quiet, peaceful, refreshing — you’d want to wake up to.

Step 1: You’ll be making music that you’d want to wake up to — music you’d like to imagine other people would want to wake up to. This isn’t “shock alert” music. It’s quiet, peaceful, refreshing.

Step 2: Compose and record something that accomplishes the goal set by Step 1.

I've become addicted to drone. Again. I was the kid with his head on the piano, listening to the overtones die away, or pressing his ear to the steel hull of the ferry, enthralled by the sounds it created. I was the kid who formed wordless songs to accompany the sound of train wheels on a long journey, or hummed along with the fan on a hot day.

In the 60s I used to play my 45s on 16, or backwards, or by hand using razor blades as stylii.

I made cut-up tapes on a cheap cassette recorder in the 70s and experimented with reel-to-reel in the 80s.

I am not a musician. I am a scavenger of sounds. I use the most basic software to process those sounds, stretching and filtering until something emerges that makes a joyful noise. Or not...
