Blissful ambient gabber. 

It’s easy to get lost in Kagami Smile’s productions - there are also so many of them that you can be immersed in his world for days on end. Based in Shenzhen, Kagami Smile has released nearly 30 full-length albums since 2016 and manages the Forgot Imprint label. His production style floats between ambient and techno, merging the two together beautifully to create hazy, dreamlike soundscapes, feeling like you’re lost in the clouds. Having previously worked with Canadian label Kudatah for a number of years with contributions to their second and third compilations, Kagami Smile returns to the imprint with a full-length project titled ‘Secrets Between’. The release is slated for the 2nd April with artwork by Konx-Om-Pax.

As if he were in a strange recurring dream, each night he awoke at the same time, disturbed by the crashing waves below his lodgings. No matter the season, as soon as night fell the sea seemed to have a mind of its own; murky black depths that threatened to drag you beneath. But it wasn't just the water that stirred a fear deep inside him, something else strange was at play here...

Rinse France resident Clad launches his new label, GRID Records, into the world, with a compilation called 'Improvisations'. Like the name suggests, he brings on board friends and affiliates, including E-Unity, Realitycheck, Troy Gunner, C.Coiffure and Théo Muller, to deliver tracks that explore new sonic paths and divert from their normal output. Like the concept itself, Clad took an instinctive approach to putting the compilation together, not overthinking or over-polishing its final format, instead appreciating the contributions as they are: "beautifully human".

Anchored in the spirit of not only collaboration but also repurposing – through a multi-artist cassette album tracing the lineage of jungle and rave, to physical products and clothing made with both used and upcycled materials – ‘Partisan’ represents the labels most ambitious project to date.

Enlisting a crew of close-knit artists and label affiliates including Impey, Sully, PAN’s Flora Yin-Wong, Leicester’s Grade 10 label, Abime label boss YTEM, Acre, Filter Dread and lots more, the ‘Partisan’ cassette tape pack – to be released on November 15th - has been designed from military surplus and will also function as a sewing kit, to encourage buyers to repair and repurpose.
