Release Infos:
The French duo of Eric Guillanton and Seb Fouble are Remote, a pair charged with serving up the next release on the ever-excellent Meant label. This twosome has been active for more than a decade now, releasing LPs and EPs on labels like Kill The DJ, Zone and Fondation as well of course Meant to which they return now two years after their label debut. Here they serve up two new ghetto tinged, darkened electro tracks that come complete with remixes from Fairmont and Headman.

‘Minos’ is a tense track with arpeggiated lines and insistent synth stabs that bring to mind the nicotine stained dark wave sensibilities of a twisted afterhours set. Fractured vocals blurt in and out to keep you on a paranoid edge and the gritty bassline is of the sort Andrew Weatherall usually employs when recording as The Asphodells.

The remix from Fairmont – a Canadian producer of many EPs and LPs that blur lines between electronic music and rock often on My Favorite Robot – strips back some of the edgy clutter and allows the ambient synths to set a much more cautious mood. It’s only at the mid-point that the kick drum lands and drives things forward like a spaceship heading toward the last city on earth.

Remote’s next offering ‘Easy’ is another seedy brew of analogue machines, spiralling bass that seems to keep you trapped in one spot and sharp edged percussion. It’s a masterfully restrained track in which not much more happens, but you always feel it might, and that’s the beauty of it.

To close out another solid package from Meant, Robi Insinna aka Headman (who is at home working with nu-disco machine fetishists like Scott Fraser) tackles the remix. His version places more emphasis on licking bass guitar riffs, molten synth puddles and metallic finger clicks, all of which work into an insalubrious soup of dark energy, skulduggery and late night mischief.

With just a vocal to work with, they decided to produce something with the 90s, uplifting vibe dancefloors would be needing. Demonstrating the same addictive, dancefloor-ready grooves seen on their previous collabs like ‘Get Toast’ and ‘Blood Orange’, this latest joint venture once again delivers the heat. With its deep organ bassline, playful keys and irresistible 4/4 swing, this record oozes club appeal in a way you can only expect from producers rooted firmly in the scene. Hot off his latest releases on DSNT (backed by a massive remix from Truss and Tessela) and Hypercolour, JoeFarr comes back home to Turbo with the latest installment in the Warehouse Series.

Lead track IDOMTYK (I don’t only make techno you know) is the mission statement here, a molten crucible built from shards of warehouse excitement. The EP as a whole bangs and bruises with massive kicks, crushing snares and glistening, razor sharp hats, but despite the abrasive percussion, melodies shine through, vocal hooks penetrate, and the atmosphere lifts far beyond the grinding monotony that maligns warehouse techno as an experience. 

Experimentation and originality sparks throughout this release. Talent, ladies and gentlemen…

Juxtaposing playful tones, melodic synths and fuzzy textures with the rawness of JoeFarr’s nifty trademark sound, this is tuneful techno at its best.

Among Bristol’s most popular and prolific producers, JoeFarr is well-known for his affiliation with stalwart techno label Turbo, Hypercolour’s excellent Hype_LTD imprint and the future cult classic DSNT.

Two of the artists on remix duty need little if no introduction at all - the impeccable Dutch duo TWR72 and Belgian producer / DJ Raving George, both with releases on London-based Bad Life flavour up ‘Deftoca’ and ‘Confide’ with their very own, very recognizable signature styles. The third remix is by one of our latest signings, Aarhus-based prodigy Variete, whose debut EP we’re proud to release on June 2nd.

TWIN TURBO 012 - HARVARD BASS - ERASERS & CHALK

Twin Turbo coasts along the upper crust of fun with two new floor-devourers from Harvard Bass. Featuring a remix by PILO.

Straight outta San Diego, Harvard Bass has released music on Sound Pellegrino and Boysnoize Records, earned support from the likes of Tiga, Brodinski, and Zombie Nation, and teamed with Green Velvet on a recent collaboration for Relief. For his first Twin Turbo EP, this young producer and prolific remixer lives up to his name, providing a $40,000-a-year education in sub-wrecking and erudite low-end manipulation. 

The vocal sample on "Erasers" coerces dancers to "DO IT RIGHT NOW", while the Schedule-I bass throb and strobe-emulating hi-hats leave them with no choice to reply "OK, NOW'S FINE". Meanwhile, "Chalk" is a dose of unbuckled techno belt-banging, what real DJs call a "result-obtainer," and the proof's in the puddles of drug-sweat, pal.

For the remix, we tabbed Harv-B's fellow Californian PILO, fresh off a release for UK label Bad-Life, and with an EP in the works for Turbo. His rework of "Chalk" licks the blackboard clean with manic warehouse music for warehouses that store the poison they intentionally inject into glowsticks. 

Twin Turbo - digital monuments etched in the face of Forever, forging an ageless catalog amid the omniscient cybercloud that will inevitably consume us all.
