Mord 005 - Paul Birken - Executing Disappearing Modulations EP (previews)

From the icy crypt of an ancient lake-bed turned swamp, Alex Ridley and Lo Progression have spent the better part of the last two decades making music as an excuse to hide from the mosquitoes. They actualize their vision by drawing together the essence of techno, minimal and the psychedelic. Serving up their first cocktail, 'Chick Magnet' is laced with esoteric glitched out micro-samples that borders on the edges of driving and obscure. Their Eastern European influenced 'Ginger Ale and Trackpants' Remix is an upbeat take of the EP's title track. The pair then finish everything off with a morose, contorted atmosphere in their mischievous finale called 'Residual Baggage'. Everything is bonded together with obligatory vocal samples and clever anecdotes.

Joe Farr - Keep it Simple / At Last

‘Keep it Simple’ is anything but, the atmosphere came from an early morning field recording in the departure lounge of Milan airport, the chatter and noise comes over as something almost alien and the melody came later after an alcohol soaked evening sitting by candlelight with friends, playing the piano. Despite it’s multiple layers it has only one message - give trance a chance. ‘At Last’ is a more direct affair, with a classic call and response pattern, the 0-coast shouts aggressively at the microbrute and the microbrute responds with a howl not dissimilar to a lost whale calf calling for its mother.. either that or its just a banger.

German producer Markus Suckut returns with a mesmerising techno release entitled ‘New Life EP’, a precursor to his forthcoming album on Rekids. First appearing on Rekids in 2015, Markus Suckut has since become a vital member of the Rekids family when not running his own labels SCKT and Pattern Research. Pounding drums and atmospheric effects initiate ‘New Life’ before a groove laden bassline and scintillating synths ebbs into the mix. ‘Mistakes Are For Everyone’ then generates an oscillating aesthetic whilst syncopated kicks join echoing nuances, leading into the rattling sounds of ‘Shimmer’ with its ghostly chords and tantalising melodies. 

With Suckut having released two albums already the Düsseldorf artist is no stranger to the long player format making his forthcoming album on Rekids all the more exciting.

Peruvian-born Jorge B grew up in Costa Rica where he was first exposed to electronic music during the 90s. Later in life he spent time in Marfa, Texas being influenced by the monumental minimal art of Donald Judd, Dan Flavin and John Chamberlain. Since then he has settled in NYC where he works as a creative director and photographer. To Jorge, images and music go hand in hand and his architectural approach can be felt in the rugged and haunting productions of this acid-tinged 4-track EP.

Turbo continues to explore edgy new territory with this set of absolutely lethal techno jackers from one of Bristol's hottest new talents: joeFarr. Distorted vocal hooks and massively overdriven drum tracks swing over rave-shattering synths. 'CLOCK' has been a major weapon in Tiga's recent DJ sets and has been charted by Dave Clarke, with more big names dying to get their hands on it but unable - it's just that exclusive.

This is raw, fear-inducing UK warehouse at it's finest, and a big step forward for the developing New Jack Techno genre.

joeFarr has recently remixed Zombie Nation as well as Tiga, and in addition to his work on Turbo is releasing a pair of tracks on Belfast-based DSNT featuring remixes from Truss and Tessela.
