To this end, everyone at Turbo is grateful beyond words that venerable veteran’s veterans Extrawelt are bringing the full bore of their two decades’ experience to bear on this slice of genre-defiling excellence. The German due open with the thorax-pummeling EBM of the title track, followed up by the angry electro of “Angry Elektro.” And if you think the EP lets up from there, keep listening to find out just how wrong what you think is, because the next track is called “Angry Halibut” and sounds exactly what you’re terrified that sounds like. Grindmaster culminates with the goalie-on-acid-fantasy acid banger “Save City” and bottomless warehouse trip-soundtrack “Flunk.” 

Those of you who choose not to support your local record store will be rewarded accordingly, as Extrawelt’s own “Drop Outs in Heaven Remix” of “Flunk” is yours as a digital exclusive. We have no real problem with vinyl lovers but they should probably come to terms with the fact that digital music - and by extension, digital exclusives - is perhaps the defining trend of 2024. It’s always fun to let our audience peer through the party peephole with some hot behind-the-scenes info. For months, Black Light Smoke’s Control EP has supplied several of label head Tiga’s secret DJ weapons. In fact, he’s been sneaking out constantly after 9pm to play it out anywhere they’ll have him. And it’s little wonder to those who wonder why, as the Chicago-born producer’s top-flight mix of EBM, electro and Benadryl-soaked vocals has all the right people dancing.

Leadoff track "New York Is Dead” eulogizes the famous Big Apple Dance Party Scene in a way that will confuse the many who have embraced the city’s thriving “Groove With the Avengers” day rave series in Times Square. But the nihilism-liking doesn’t stop there, with the Friday-Til-I-Die attitude of “Black Hole at the Disco,” the pleather-dreaded post-cyberpunk  of “Last Song Before Sunrise”, and the oxygen-deprived acid of “Break Your Back” culminating in the 11:45am-peak-time industrial trance of closer “Mind Control.” 

Because we want this to be available to as many inhabitants of the blasted apocalyptic landscape we have pencilled in for 2034 or so, we have decided to make this release available both digitally and on vinyl. So whether you’ve managed to jack in illegally to a Spotify Wind Farm or you’re relegated to the hand-cranked misery of a Victrola while living in a barn or something, we’ve got you covered!

For most of the past 2 years, Boys Noize records have saved my life as a DJ. Without his remixes of “Spacer Frau” and Bloc-Party I might be unemployed. Almost every DJ I know, from 2ManyDJs to Thomas Von Party, has at one time or other felt the saving grace, the redemptive power of a BN record dropped at the right time.  His unique mixture of ( blah blah blah) rave sensibility, rock edge and techno purity (??????) provides the dancefloor equivalent of a “get out of jail free card”.

SO..... When I had the chance to sign a record to Turbo, I freaked out. We sent the private jet to pick him and his lady up and within hours we were walking through my mountain retreat's private gardens and bird-sanctuary. We smoked a joint. He threw a big stick and my hound chased it and brought it back to him. It should be noted that when I was on the verge of signing Tiesto....my hound REFUSED to bring the stick back, thus dooming the deal. It was obvious that we were born to work together. My dog is one of the finest A&R dogs in Canada.

The three track 12inch maxi single you hold in your hands is the result of hours of work.

The a-side is Erole Attack, my least favorite, but I have to admit it destroys parties. It is an homage to a certain Mr. Erol Alkan. It’s like pub-techno, complete with big riffs and cut up vox. The b-side features “I go raven”. By my calculations, when I was actually “raven” , BN was 9 years old. Last is the brilliant “haldern” a deep, growing, moody electro-techno epic which even features live “water-splashing” sounds that were recorded at 7 different beaches on each continent.

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998.
