The latest release from Turbo Recordings features the rarest of all techno label occurrences: a good story. An Austrian producer with releases on Kneaded Pains and Nervous, Dubesque met NYC legend Amanda Lepore at the Life Ball years ago, when he used to serve as the VIP area host. Her manager asked him to produce an EP to accompany her memoirs (Doll Parts), and he went on to also write songs for her “Bartschland Follies” show at the McKittrick Hotel. See? Real people with interesting lives. Not a single dude with a laptop providing his alternate score for Inception in sight. 

Years passed, and Dubesque was struck by an idea. Create a techno track featuring Lepore’s vocals. This led to a collaboration with Brooklyn indie A&R Peace Bisquit and electro pop singer/songwriter Ayer which gave birth to “Queen”, featuring the world’s most famous transsexual. 

Here’s where things get really f’n fascinating, because the result - “Queen” - won the hearts of all two Turbo Recordings employees, who decided to give the track the largest platform imaginable to them. Please request the Radio Mix when calling your local sports talk station to demand airplay, and play the instrumental version when loudly regaling your friends with the tale of its creation. The EP is rounded out by two more excellent examples of Dubesque’s stellar techno craft: the title track and “BRB,” which we’re told is how teenagers abbreviate “Ballroom Blitz” from the Wayne’s World soundtrack online.

Danny Serrano releases Craft, his new album Danny Serrano runs his own recording studio and label, Serrano's Kitchen, and has worked for big labels such as Desolat, Truesoul, Circus Recordings, Saved Records, Stereo Productions, Circus Recordings and more over many years. 

The new album finds him broadening his musical horizons across a wide variety of house and tech styles, and the new single is a fantastic taster. 'Craft' talks about the daily life of any person in this crazy world, trying to change something in his boring life. It is an album with deep melodies where the all tracks plays with voice and the melodies supports a killer groove dedicated to the dance floor.

The Future follows soon after and show off more melodic and progressive styles, proving Serrano is always maturing as an artist. This new album is another standout track in the discography of Serrano and a fine preview of the full length to come.

PREMIERE: Danny Serrano - The Future [Serrano's Kitchen]

Over the course of the last couple of years I have begun to hear more breakbeats naturally appear in the new music I like. For example I have been playing a lot of tracks by the likes of Special Request, Ejeca, Warung, DJ Haus. They make breakbeats from right across a range of sounds from the really old school rave style through to new interpretations of jungle or more mid-tempo vibes which were more melodic and trance like. I mentioned previously how lockdown has given me the chance to explore my own record collection, especially a lot of the progressive sounds that were big in the 90s. Falling back in love with those sounds reminded me of the fluidity and variety you find in breakbeats and this gave me lots of production ideas. Somehow it feels more free and I am able to be more adventurous than the typical 4/4 techno and house template. That’s what gave me the confidence to  explore these new breakbeat styles and reach out to Soultrain who is such a legend in the reggae and drum & bass scenes. It was a lot of fun working with a vocalist for a change and in this case in particular Soultrain’s vocal work made our studio sessions come alive and made the track we did come together so well.

Ant LaRock is the current face of house music. Since developing his artist name in 2014, dance music legends Todd Terry, Armand Van Helden, Kenny Dope have all championed Ant for his abilities. 
Ant has toured the world playing music in some of the worlds best venues including Hi (Ibiza), Chinese Laundry (Sydney), Output, Cielo, Elsewhere (NYC) and Halcyon (San Francisco). He has released on labels including Ministry Of Sound, Snatch OFF!, Get Physical, Exploited Ghetto, Lumberjacks in Hell and Nervous Records.

He also hosts a monthly radio show on industry-respected media platform Data Transmission Radio where he explores house music through playing tracks, interviewing famous friends/colleagues and much more. As a monthly contributor at Magnetic Magazine, Ant provides studio production advice.

As a global pandemic shook the world in 2020, Ant LaRock took the time to reflect on his current life in Brooklyn and all the music, people and places that had influenced him over the last 5 years which blossomed on the Ibiza scene and matured back in Brooklyn. 

Ant created his album BK (Brooklyn) to reflect the feel of the varying neighborhoods, nightclubs and depth of diversity Brooklyn offers today.  The songs all have a vibe different from each other but as a whole, they truly represent the essence of Brooklyn and Ant's life within it.  

It features gritty hip-hop soul samples; is colorful, loud, saturated, vibrant, chill and energetic - all in one.  It's not lounge music, it's not full on club-bangers…it’s that absolute sweet spot right in between the two.  

Ant calls this new sound “At Home House” which in a socially isolated world, brings that unique Brooklyn color and hustle to everyone at home. This is truly an album of the now.

Prolific American artist Jon Hester returns to Rekids for the first instalment of his new album, ‘Converge’, this September.

Jon Hester grew up in the Midwest US, living in Chicago and Minneapolis while taking musical cues from Detroit. Initially he was a dancer, and later transitioned to the decks with a refined understanding of what it takes to move a club. He progressed to hosting his own events, holding residencies, and working at a record shop, and now brings his physical rhythms and adventurous drums to his productions, with output on respected labels such as Transmat, Deeply Rooted, Dystopian, Klockworks, and LET Recordings, not to mention multiple appearances on Rekids.

Continuing to show fine form on his debut album, Hester now serves up eight of his signature house and techno fusions with plenty of his trademark directness across four sides of vinyl. The superb 'Sending Signals' opens the album with scene-setting synth modulations full of sci-fi atmosphere. It's the calm before the storm as 'Metropolitan' then immediately sets off on a cantering groove that is eventually run through with busy, jazzy piano keys that bring the soul.

'Haze' has excellently taught kick drums with hypnotic synth tones adding colour, and features Hester on saxophone. When 'Rain' comes, things grow darker and more menacing, with shakers and urgent stabs keeping you moving at a slick pace.

The second half of this compelling record features the loopy punches and pulses of the super smooth 'Dreamstate', beautifully cosmic and widescreen techno of 'Free' and pensive but urgent deep electro of standout cut 'Flex.' Last of all, 'Equinox' is lit up with distant chords which bring a far-sighted gaze to the rolling, robust kicks.

Turbo is proud to welcome Toronto warehouse legend and Art Department magician Kenny Glasgow back into the fold with Mean Machine, four killer club hits that mark his first outing with us since the 2001 classic Toronto Mix Sessions, which helped usher in the Golden Age of the Mix CD. Reached for comment, label boss Tiga recalls the beginnings of their friendship with a wistful gleam in his eye as he revisits a time before the burden of all dance music had yet to be strapped to his surprisingly powerful back:

"I met Kenny way, way back in the late 90s - great DJ. He's one of the only other guys I know who sings on their records; we actually have a monthly support group called ‘Layin’ It on the Line.’ Back in 2001, we DJ'd together at the launch party for my Mixed Emotions mix CD in Toronto, which was Ground Zero for electro at the time. I’m not sure if it still is. My point is: we’ve always loved each other."

Mean Machine leadoff “Hot Mess” features the lyric, “Watching you dance drives me fucking crazy,” which takes on added meaning when you consider that he’s talking about you specifically. “Weird Science” tears up the laboratory waiting room dancefloor with its clinical machine funk, while “Something Special” lives up to the insane braggadocio of its title with an eight-minute marathon of after-hours madness. Finally, closer “Just Let Go” urges you to cut your losses with your current family and buy that Traktor controller you’ve been eyeing on Craigslist every night while they sleep.

“At the end of the day, he's probably the only cool person I ever met from Ontario,” adds Tiga. "I mean, I tried to meet Dan Aykroyd on several occasions, but it never worked out. I wanted to tell him that bustin’ makes me feel good, too. And I guess Elvis Stojko is pretty cool. Anyway, Kenny has a leather trenchcoat that I have always been jealous of and remains a threat to my emotional well-being to this day.”

Mathias Kaden returns to Rekids with four-track EP ‘Control Your Mind’, featuring a remix from Marcel Dettmann.

Previously appearing on Rekids in 2019 with his ‘Liberate Drums’ EP, Mathias Kaden makes his second appearance on Radio Slave aka Matt Edwards’ label with four original tracks of razor sharp material, as well as a remix from Berghain resident Dettmann.

‘Control Your Mind’ opens with the impeccably produced title track, an electro flecked roller. Featuring hypnotic synth work and subtle automated inflections, the cut effortlessly glides, peppered with the occasional titular vocal refrain from Sven Väth puncturing the groove. Shifting into 4/4 territory is ‘Conviction’, a restrained but stunningly effective track that makes full use of memorable off-beat synth stabs and shimmering 909 percussion to constantly drive the track forward.

On the flip, Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann turns up the heat with his remix of ‘Control Your Mind’. Filtering the vocals, the MDR and BAD MANNERS boss also delivers a resonant bassline that works in tandem with knocking percussion, as creeping pads morph and evolve over the duration of the track, creating a trippy and propulsive banger.

Classic dub techno aesthetics are front and centre in ‘Substance’, a track destined for the golden hours between late at night and early in the morning, while finishing the package in fine style, the digital only ‘Anticipation’ showcases Kaden’s skill in crafting a killer peak time track, adding a welcome bonus of yet another weapon for USBs worldwide.

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. In addition to launching his own career, the label has been integral in the success of acts like Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont and most recently, ANNA & Charlotte de Witte. Core talent includes ZZT (Tiga's collaboration with Zombie Nation), Jori Hulkkonen, BETON, Clouds, Harvard Bass, Pilo, Shaded, Dimitri Veimar and a host of new young producers in genres ranging from pure techno, electro, and house to pop. The list of artists who have released music on the label is a veritable 'who's who' of top-level talent spanning a broad musical range, and this, along with a commitment to beautiful design, has earned the label respect in the industry and a cult following among fans. 

“We started out singing into plastic bags and shipping them to stores as quickly as possible. Later, we discovered that vinyl sounds way better when delivered by kayak. I learned so much the first few years…Now, as I look towards the future, I can envision music for poor people, sonic odors for the hearing impaired, even MP3s for women....Vroom, sucka!” says Tiga, the lyrical lampsman lighting the way down Dance Avenue.
