On July 16th, multidisciplinary producer, designer and 3D artist Raynor de Groot serves up Future Static, his debut full-length on Atomnation / Intercept as Coloray. More than simply a collection of music, the record will be presented in an all-new virtual space where each track is a portal to a different world.

Dutchman de Groot has proven himself as an accomplished conceptual artist who draws together many different creative fields. He has released everything from lush synth-pop to deep techno, and has real songwriting ability. 2019's 'Can't Stop' in collaboration with Eagles & Butterflies proved that as it crossed over multiple scenes and became one of the year's standout tracks thanks to support from heavy hitters as diverse as Hunee and Four Tet. Âme & Dixon have also regularly supported Coloray's music and asked him to release 'Gazing Eyes' on their Innervisions label.

Two years after his Real Life Cinema EP on Atomnation, Future Static finds de Groot open a new chapter that explores a more conceptual sound. The album "translates the concept of man and computer creating a new reality where logic and emotion seems to be at odds with one another." Its 12 tracks have club-ready grooves, but also exquisite synth designs that are edgy and uptempo. They will be translated to a live show and interactive music experience in VR, on your phone and desktop. In the show, online visitors will be able to get lost inside the mind of an AI and watch and interact with a Coloray performance.

The album opens with the intergalactic ambiance of 'Center Of The C#' before the bright chords of 'Broken Mirrors' welcome you into your new reality. Pained vocals seem to yearn for something lost, but that is soon forgotten on 'Echoes' with its crashing breaks. A bright, lively and optimistic lead synth takes you onwards towards the dystopian meltdown of 'Line Break I.' 'Face of Value' rebuilds with a chunky groove and surging bassline while vocals bring a sense of humanity.

There is a trance-inducing euphoria to 'New Moon +' that leads you to feel elevated, then 'Line Break II' encourages you to take in your reality as it suspends you amongst crystalline pads and lush sci-fi sounds. 'Kill The Ego' has a darkened mood, with menace in the percolating bass and tension between the drums and synths. This ambitious album plays out through the cyborg techno funk of 'Digital Abyss' and 'Moire', and after 'Line Break III' acts like an intense ambient reboot, 'Resurrection' sends you off on a hopeful electro lullaby.

Presented with an artfully designed gatefold sleeve, Future Static is a groundbreaking project from Coloray that pushes creative boundaries while offering an immersive listening experience.

We're chuffed to finally have Daniel Avery contribute music to the label, and it was well worth the wait. Dan liked the original album and jumped on board to remix the title track, even though we didn't have the stems. Despite that, he captures the vibe of the 'Lady Burning Sky' original and propulses it way out of this world, in a space that is uniquely his. Also included are two bonus tracks from the original album sessions!

Atomnation's 90th release is to be an album from long time associate David Douglas. He first appeared on the label in 2012 and now Escapism is a triumphant return across 10 tracks of deeply melodic and melancholic electronic music, with artwork by Menno Fokma.

David is a consistently high quality and prolific producer who has put out key albums like Moon Observations and Spectators Of The Universe, as well as vital EPs such as Mountain Pink and Royal Horticultural Society. He is an accomplished video editor who also edits documentaries while at the same time being an all encompassing producer. David finds inspiration in the majesty of the cosmos and the grandeur of nature and manages to capture the essence of that in his music. He has had critical acclaim from esteemed outlets like Pitchfork and XLR8R, has played all round the world and frequently has his music synced by brands like Louis Vuitton, Channel, Givenchy, and Fiat. After a short break, he is now back and better than ever in 2021.

This is an album that finds a perfect balance between heady underground sounds and more catchy pop tracks. After a serene ambient opener that soothes the mind, 'Wade' featuring NYC based artist Erika Spring (from indie-band Au Revoir Simone) is an airy bit of avant pop with a clean, heavenly vocal offset by stuttering synths and rubbery beats. 'Can You Feel It' again explores the tension between melancholic, mournful beats and synths and a more upbeat vocal that soars to the skies.

There is plenty of bright, reflective and shiny melody to ensure 'Golden Days' lifts your spirits, and a high point half way through the album comes from 'Lumen' featuring contemporary Dutch star Blaudzun, with whom David has worked as HATY HATY. Here they explore a heavenly house vibe with vocals that send shivers down your spine and have you desperate for an outdoor summer dance. Later, 'Drifting Away' is a bristling broken beat track with hyper speed drums and bass underpinning shimmering melodies that sounds like nothing else out there. After that, 'Come Alive' brings upbeat house and organic hits with sun scorched synths, and finally Erika Spring reappears on the tender downbeat lullaby that is 'Fade Into My Heart' which closes things down in stylish fashion.

This is an accomplished and adventurous album that takes you on an emotional ride through the ups and downs of everyday life, all with a delicate musical touch.

It’s time for a new Reinhard Voigt EP on Kompakt? It doesn’t feel like it was that long ago since we last heard from him but then again, time is running! His latest release on Kompakt "Was wir spüren" (KOM 402) was released in May 2019. From there we encountered Reinhard's musical work mainly in the form of various digital reissues or in union with his brother Wolfgang together as Voigt & Voigt. Then in August of 2021, a glimmer of musical life from Reinhard reached his loyal fans in the form of a continuation of his RV ultra-minimalist concept series as "RV 05 / RV 06" via our KX imprint.

So that brings us to the present. Two new tracks that preach and spin on the classic Reinhard Voigt sound. Tracks that are as relentless as they are consistent to his signature stoic, radical, minimal techno. "Cha Cha Club" creaks and stomps along so mercilessly that they leave us impatient for the reopening of a dark, foggy club room and to have the bitter taste of gin and chemicals on our palates. Bass drum in, bass drum out - sometimes that's all it takes to be happy. 

With "Die Frau, die nach Deutz ging" Reinhard discloses a small tale in the title...that this is the continuation of "Der Mann, der nie nach Deutz kam", a track from “Was wir spüren”. Elements recall Reinhard Voigt's SPEICHER tracks; sovereign, modern techno, monotonous in principle, but here and there interrupted and structured by unexpected signals and sounds in such a way that the track will also work on larger dance floors.

When we first heard from recent Kompakt signing Emma Kollmorgen, with 2021’s “You Are The”, she was hymning the complexity of romance: “Love is scary as fuck!”, she said. On her debut EP, “1243”, she’s built on that intensity and offered up a five-track suite of night-vision electronic pop, bristling with a stealthy sensuality. It’s a cinematic collection, building from the brooding “Escape”, through the drifting, tactile pulses of “Taciturn”, the gritty, bustling noises that run underneath the smoke-signal torch-song of “All The Wild Animals”, and the closing, tear-stained melancholy of “Home”. “You Are The” reappears here as well, settling in perfectly amongst new friends.

It’s a completely assured first EP from an artist who’s been slowly and steadily building her own sonic world. From her early days, when she busied herself by learning guitar and joining bands, Kollmorgen always had a vision of doing something “more independent”, to allow her to find her own sound and write her own songs. A brief creative alliance with the Berlin DJ duo Dole & Kom led to some recordings and live performances. All the while, Kollmorgen was carefully shaping her production and sound designing skills with Ableton Live, and exploring distinctive musical terrain in collaboration with co-producer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Seidel (The Ocean Collective, Fern, Nightmarer). She joined the Kompakt family after a recommendation by Patrice Baumel, who also remixed her debut single with typical flair.

On “1243”, though, Kollmorgen fully inhabits her songs, gifting each of them with a sweet, subtle sway, her vocal and lyrical openheartedness balancing the blue tones of her production. Each song is confident and poised, Kollmorgen relying on cross-thatched patterns of texture as a web to support her melodies: “I like patterns,” she says, “they give me something to hold onto, something stable in an unstable world.” The songs feel as though they’re grappling with moments of revelation and experience in Kollmorgen’s world, which makes sense, given her approach to music: “I never had a diary,” she reflects, “so writing songs is my way of expressing and dealing with life.” On 1243, you’ll catch some glimpses of life lived, made sonorous through songs beautifully sung.

I learned so much the first few years…Now, as I look towards the future, I can envision music for poor people, sonic odors for the hearing impaired, even MP3s for women....Vroom, sucka!” says Tiga, the lyrical lampsman lighting the way down Dance Avenue.
