Three is the magic number and continues the Connection Lost series by @massimilianopagliara on Uncanny Valley. The series is a highly emotional project for the masterful Italian DJ and producer with music that is deeply inspired by thoughts on how to cope, once the connection with loved ones is cut. As wide as the feelings and emotions in those situations are, as varied is the sound palette with tracks between Acid, House, Disco and Downbeat. 

There’s also continuity in the visual aspects, as Alexander Dorn aka Credit 00 again created the artwork for the third part of the series in line with the two predecessors.
 
The record opens with the technoid UNFETTERED and indeed the spirit in Massi's machines is completely unleashed as the track gradually layers alarming and mysterious pads over an unstoppable acid line and uncompromising drum work. FORGOTTEN SECRETS can be read as a nod to the title track of the first Connection Lost EP but is primarily an ever-building smasher that will make waves on every dance floor from major festivals to the carpet next to your couch. 

Then there is IRIDESCENT SOLITUDE, which comes with a warm discoid feel and is a pitch perfect example of why Massi has a knack for surrounding powerful bass lines with a setup of beautiful melodies and instruments. Just listen to this guitar played by Jules Etienne. Finally comes EMPTY ROOM, which is carried by a sleazy hip-hop beat while keeping a very relaxed pace. It feels like the musical equivalent of looking at the stars, where you discover shooting star-like sounds again and again.

Ask any label and they’ll tell you the past year has produced a deluge of beyond-emo track submissions. To be honest, it’s a little tough to humour our artists' complaints about feeling isolated when most of them scoffed at the opportunity to spend 2020 living and working at the Turbo Influencer House. It was a unique opportunity to learn responsibility by maintaining a tidy shared studio space/bunkbed area and keeping Tiga’s electric bicycle charged and ready to dominate the streets 24/7.

But for rising label stars like Nocow, who is based in Saint Petersburg, Russia, we realize that Montreal represents a very expensive boat ride, and our promise of unlimited orange soda before 5 pm and an $80 travel voucher just wasn’t enough. To make it up to us, he submitted over 60 tracks this year, with the ones that made the cut for this release representing the top 8.3%, an astonishing figure by any measure.

Nocow's latest EP perfectly soundtracks the ever-degrading Science Hell we all agreed to by accepting Winamp’s Terms of Service back in 2002, with moody touchscreen vocals alternating with Blade AF electro trance banger vibes. According to Nocow, the title of closing track "Pozdno Vstal” translates as “got up late today,” which just about nails the zeitgeist to the freaking wall. Additionally, this is the kind of hot language tip that could give you the credibility you’ve been sorely lacking on your favorite Russian Cyber-Goth forums.

11th November sees dynamic duo Hiver return to cherished Belgium imprint, Curle Recordings, with their latest EP, entitled ‘Soundescence’.   
 
This excellent four-track offering is the Italian pairing’s third EP on Curle, following on from ‘Blue Aconite’ in 2013 and ‘Same Mistake Twice’ last year, which garnered them support from techno heavyweights such as Sven Väth, Laurent Garnier and Efdemin.
 
Curle, who recently celebrated their 10th anniversary, have fast become one of the most exciting and respected underground labels in the game. Past releases by the likes of Hiver, as well as prolific DJ/producer, Matthew Herbert, whose timeless track ‘See You On Monday’ was recently reissued by them, has contributed towards this success.
 
Kicking off the release is the title-named track, ‘Soundescence’, displaying the melodic, psychedelic sound Hiver has been praised for previously. Delicate synth patterns perfectly bled with the understated drums and percussive elements. This ethereal approach to Techno continues on the following deep-groover, ‘One More Snooze’.
 
The B-side opener, ‘Phonotis’, immediately breaks the silence with a steady 4/4 rhythm, seeing a squelchy synth bassline, warm pads and floating atmospheric textures scattered throughout the six-minute number.
 
Closing the EP is ‘Floor Diving’, which once again showcase Hiver’s sleek and seductive style of dance music that is made for the dark, underground clubs of Europe and beyond.

The ever productive Conforce returns to one of his key home labels for another exploration of his prolific deep sea techno sound. His Haedron EP has a firm dance floor focus, designed to propel you ever further forwards. 

'Haedron' sets things off with smeared chords adding scale to the knocking beats. Hi-hats glisten like light beams penetrating the deep ocean and it’s a typically warm and comforting track from the Dutchman. 'Scorched Earth' has harder techno kicks forcing you forwards. An ecosystem of claps, hats and twisted pads bring plenty of energy and suspense to the party, then 'Muon Transverse Momentum' manages to mix up hugely expansive chords with pillowy but dynamic drums and oodles of cuddly reverb. Last of all, 'Quantum Phaser' ups the ante with some timeless dub techno vibes that mixes Basic Channel with Planet E to mesmeric effect.

Progetto Tribale was born in 1992 under the mentorship of Giancarlino and executed by a team that included Pietro Micioni, Paolo Micioni, D.RaD (Stefano Facchielli) and Giancarlino himself. The project was based on a deep combination of african rhythms and soul music that have later influenced much of the music to come and was acclaimed by the press and dj’s all over the world as a genre bender.

The track ‘Behavior’ immediately reached a great success in clubs, as reported by the European House charts of the time. The project continued for two more productions with UMM, to then change label and go on with D: Vision, until 1996, year of publication of the last production, ‘Volume 6’. Today, 24 years later, ‘Volume 7’ was finally born under the partnership of Donato Dozzy, Pietro and Paolo Micioni and released by Danza Tribale.

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. In addition to launching his own career, the label has been integral in the success of acts like Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont and most recently, ANNA & Charlotte de Witte. Core talent includes ZZT (Tiga's collaboration with Zombie Nation), Jori Hulkkonen, BETON, Clouds, Harvard Bass, Pilo, Shaded, Dimitri Veimar and a host of new young producers in genres ranging from pure techno, electro, and house to pop. The list of artists who have released music on the label is a veritable 'who's who' of top-level talent spanning a broad musical range, and this, along with a commitment to beautiful design, has earned the label respect in the industry and a cult following among fans. 

“We started out singing into plastic bags and shipping them to stores as quickly as possible. Later, we discovered that vinyl sounds way better when delivered by kayak. I learned so much the first few years…Now, as I look towards the future, I can envision music for poor people, sonic odors for the hearing impaired, even MP3s for women....Vroom, sucka!” says Tiga, the lyrical lampsman lighting the way down Dance Avenue.
