Belfast based Phil Kieran is back on Twin Turbo with remixes from TWR72 and Catz 'N Dogz. 

One of the most reliable producers around, with a discography that includes releases on heavily respected era-defining labels (Cocoon, Soma, Skint, Novamute, Gigolo, and his own Phil Kieran Recordings), Phil has managed to consistently reinvent his sound, staying cool without ever being trendy - a quality which is reinforced by his affiliation with Tiga's label, who have done the same over their 15+ year history. 

There's a sense of cool conviction here, no doubt rooted in vast experience. Sonically refined grooves honed to their essential steel underpin top-line melodies that are confidently off-centre. It takes real skill to go 'wonky' but not lose your audience. There's nothing superfluous, just a pair of solid club tracks built for very different rooms: Liquid Night - a cold hard warehouse assassin - and Saturdays - a warm club pumper. 

Mixing things up, Dutch duo TWR72 take their concrete fists to Liquid Night, while Polish tech-house pair Catz 'N Dogz dim the lights and deepen the groove on Saturdays.

Roam Recordings proudly announces its latest release, marking the debut of Brazilian-born, Berlin-based producer Rotciv on the label. Returning to the Bordello, and the seven-inch, is Real Velour. This secretive figure reappears with two tracks of indie dance that bend and re-shape elements of italo disco, minimal pop and synth wave to create an utterly unique experience. Sleazy basslines and tropical percussion give way to heavily vocodered words in “Lover”, machine amor breaking to spoken human voice as melodies twirl. The romance described is one of passion, of friendship and of fidelity; but, with a hint of control. Clever and addictive, the composition cherry-picks bittersweet sounds to depict this relationship. The flip, “Look What You’ve Done”, maintains the candystore keys of the A-Side; the tone shifting as lyrics adopt a brazen and fortified vigour. It appears maybe that the promises of “Lover” have been shattered. While the love story turns to hurt feelings and regret, Real Velour keep the energy high to revel in the final break-up.

Real Velour - Lover

'Pixel Rain' marks the debut release from Moscow-based musician Dima Safronov, originally hailing from Bryansk. Dima brings fourteen years of DJ experience on his shoulders, he has organized numerous parties, and he's also curator of 5/8 Radio, a music station he founded eight years ago.

'Pixel Rain' doesn't aim to be conceptual, but rather captures the mood of a specific moment, capable of sending listeners drifting along waves of memory. Four compositions feel like brief flashes of emotional impulses, joined together to form a unified whole. Two original tracks (including the title track, created in collaboration with Safronov’s close friend robsn), seamlessly flow into two dance-oriented remixes, each reflecting and reinterpreting the mood of their originals.

The opening track - 'Pixel Rain' immediately immerses the listener in a world of rich and soft digital textures, delicate rhythms, and subtle sonic architecture. The music is both anxious and pure, like raindrops trickling down an evening windowpane. The second track - 'Shinichi Atobe, I am Your Son' is imbued with a dense, sun-drenched melancholy that unfolds gradually and unhurriedly, through an elegant counterpoint between a deep dub-inflected bassline and a ghostly, mist-like melody in the upper register.

The second half of the release shifts the emotional landscape into a dance music setting.
robsn transforms the pensive soundscape of 'Shinichi Atobe, I am Your Son' into an airy, self-assured anthem, one that’s easy to imagine echoing through the early hours of a large open-air rave. The final remix by Dima Studitsky darkens the overall palette, making the rhythm more insistent and imbuing the music with a distinct nighttime energy.

'Pixel Rain' is a story told in the language of electronic music, crafted with attention and love for fleeting emotional states that are never meant to return.

The album is released by Elephant Gait Music, a Spanish label based in Gran Canaria that specializes in visionary electronic music resistant to easy genre classification.

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. In addition to launching his own career, the label has been integral in the success of acts like Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont and most recently, ANNA & Charlotte de Witte. Core talent includes ZZT (Tiga's collaboration with Zombie Nation), Jori Hulkkonen, BETON, Clouds, Harvard Bass, Pilo, Shaded, Dimitri Veimar and a host of new young producers in genres ranging from pure techno, electro, and house to pop. Like a crusader of the night, DJ and event manager Jeremy J is a household name on the far north entertainment front.

Personality wise, he is a quiet achiever! Behind the decks he will and has mixed it with the best… Jeremy J has the reputation as the DJ’s DJ. A near perfect ear, a brand of house, tech, breaks, hip hop, disco, acid jazz and funk that defines great music and the seamless way of compiling tracks together creating the ultimate party vibe. His diversity to play amongst any DJ or act amongst these genres is second to none and has set the benchmark for all that follow.

Residing in Cairns, Jeremy J burst onto the national scene through the mix ‘If It Aint Broken Don’t Fix It’ through AKA/Triple J and his own compilation release (House2Hard Vol 2), tours and role with Generationext. 

Holding residencies with every major club and bar in Cairns and surrounding areas for over a decade, playing or instigating festivals, supporting and bringing a plethora of acts to North Queensland and across the country, for a regional town his career has been illustrious…and would be seen in this light amongst the guns of major cities. There are simply to many events played and acts he has supported to list!

Respected and revered for rescuing the north’s music scene from the near depths of extinction with his partnership in Electric Avenue, he is not afraid to put the music first. Whether it be DJ’s, bands, electronica or hip hop, Jeremy J and Electric Avenue are striving to give the regional area’s of North Queensland the entertainment and respect it deserves. 

Having been voted #1 in the North Queensland Elec:Tropica DJ award poll, industry achievement awards for his own abilities, events, his retail store and having won first place in a national mix up competition via Triple J, Jeremy has earned his right place amongst the upper echelon. Hosting and guest appearances on numerous radio stations, managing international DJ tours, setting up his DJ school, label management, instigating and running the successful retail outlet and hub for DJ’s in Tastey… is there anything he hasn’t had his fingers in? Studio… yes well that’s a work in progress at present!
