UK turned Aotearoa/New Zealand-based DJ and producer @keepsakes is a voice increasingly worth tuning ears to. 

Fresh off the back of a major remix of Tiga & Hudson Mohawke's 'BUYBUYSELL' just last year, the artist makes his debut on Canadian-based @turborecordings with 'Impossible (Eating The Sun)'.

'Nimby Orgy' is the EP's closer, though not with the closure one might expect from that kind of name. 

Typical of Keepsakes' style, 'Nimby Orgy' is driving, controlled chaos brought together. Crashing, banging percussive samples bounce off squelchy pads and synth-lines, with crushed vocals adding to a growing feeling of disorientation, potentially also typical of such an orgy.

The release sees not only a digital release but vinyl too, as Keepsakes is a strict vinyl-only DJ. Of that fact, Turbo shared: "Given that Keepsakes is a vinyl-only DJ, we’ve done him the courtesy of making this release available both on vinyl and digitally. While this would have been an incredible opportunity to completely shut him out of playing his own tracks, we decided that this would be unfair to the music itself. Because at the end of the day, Turbo takes its marching orders from Harmony, Melody, Rhythm, and Timbre."

Sei A's latest release finds the Scottish producer fully immersed in the forward-thinking UK electronic scene, splitting the difference between the worlds of underground techno and legit songwriting. It can be a difficult space to inhabit, but with this release, we see him begin to strike the perfect balance with his most fully-realized piece yet, both a natural evolution of his sound and a perfect distillation of what we love about his melodic sensibility.
 
The title-track is possibly the best thing Sei A has ever produced, balancing emotive synths and sculpted vocal samples that flow languidly over a skittish beat. B-side "Starjar" starts in a similarly tranquil vein before expanding into an ominous cosmic synthstorm.
 
We sought remixers with a similar sensibility, so we called in Midland and Youandewan (who remixed the formers excellent 'Bring Joy' last year). Midland toughens up the beats and pushes the track squarely toward the dance floor, while Youandewan creates a vertiginous downbeat ambience.
 
Sei A has a wealth of new material to be released on Turbo this year, including a more club-oriented follow-up EP this winter featuring a remix by Martyn.

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998. In addition to launching his own career, the label has been integral in the success of acts like Chromeo, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont and most recently, ANNA & Charlotte de Witte. Core talent includes ZZT (Tiga's collaboration with Zombie Nation), Jori Hulkkonen, BETON, Clouds, Harvard Bass, Pilo, Shaded, Dimitri Veimar and a host of new young producers in genres ranging from pure techno, electro, and house to pop. “We started out singing into plastic bags and shipping them to stores as quickly as possible. Later, we discovered that vinyl sounds way better when delivered by kayak. I learned so much the first few years…Now, as I look towards the future, I can envision music for poor people, sonic odors for the hearing impaired, even MP3s for women....Vroom, sucka!” says Tiga, the lyrical lampsman lighting the way down Dance Avenue.
