Well known for their unique concepts and ideas, Steyoyoke continues to surge forward and launches yet another annual vinyl project. 'Couple Affair' is both innovative and exciting, as it channels all the skills and talent already residing within the label. Two artists are paired together to collaborate on one track, allowing Steyoyoke to streamline their skills and co produce freely within the realms of the family. The outcome is four polished originals, all exclusively created for the Steyoyoke 'Couple Affair' vinyl series.
 
'Couple Affair 01' sees Nick Devon teamed up with BLANCAh, Dahu with MPathy and Soul Button works along side both, Nick Devon and BLANCAh, for a collaboration with each of them. 

Soul Button & BLANCAh kick things off with 'Rising Silence', an unmistakably simple track that is beautifully balanced between dreamy synth lines, clean hitting drums and layers of snappy high hats. It's hauntingly delicate with embellishments of intensity and emotional longing.

The 'Shattered' collaboration shows Dahu staying true to his roots and reveals MPathy's more sinister side. Infiltrated with a strong techno presence, this track also carries a subtle progression to it, which is built upon a tapestry of dark chord progressions and murky soundscapes.

The Soul Button & Nick Devon partnership gives birth to 'Fading Light', a wholesome melodic track which is generously crafted with that ever present and distinguished Steyoyoke sound.  Alluringly, hypnotic and almost trance inducing, this track is all-consuming and confines you to place of refined aural pleasures.

The last duo of artists to team up are Nick Devon & BLANCAh with their creation 'Harmstrings'. Well defined by its vigorous energy, 'Harmstrings' is the type of track that induces a heightened sense of mystery and broodiness. The melody is both dark and ominous, with a backdrop of swirling synths and stabbing percussion.

Millok - I'm Trippin (ME & her Remix)

El Guincho side project gets the remix treatment from edit-champ Pilooski, Visionquest / Soft Touch mega-talent Clarian and Turbo / Multi Culti A&R Von Party.

Spanish musician Pablo Diaz-Reixa, best known for his psychedelic, tropical pop act El Guincho (released on Young Turks), posted 5 sample-based tribal tracks back in 2013 on the site tranc.es. The music drew the attention of John Talabot, who released two of them, titled simply '4' and '5,' onto his Hivern Discs label, as a vinyl-only release, which found it's way to Thomas Von Party and inspired this remix pack.

Pilooski hasn't released much music of late, but what he has put out has been of exceptional quality, with remixes for I:Cube and Tim Paris being highlights of 2014. His remix of Trances 4 is a sprawling modular head-trip, far out in every way, yet somehow listenable and versatile as a DJ tool. 

The increasingly prolific Clarian (formerly of Footprintz), flexes a progressive acid house builder out of Trances 5, proving his skill in yet another facet, after an incredibly wide range of releases ranging from indie rock on Seth Troxler's Soft Touch to indian chant-pop on his Multi Culti EP. It's a sonic departure from the original, but one that stays true to the verb in question.

Finally, Von Party brings the tempo down on to a smooth 116 BPM, restraining some of the abrasive elements to make for a low-slung crowd-pleaser that works equally as warm-up or late-night takedown - already played and supported by Tiga.

Also included in the package are the amazing originals, available for the first time digitally, and as a digital exclusive, a previously unheard alternate version of Trances 4.

PREMIERE : Sky Civilian - Don't Call Me Back (Original Mix)[Atomnation]

Six months following her debut EP Open Door on Dutch imprint Atomnation, Sky Civilian is set to release a sophomore EP, At the Seams, on November 8th. At the Seams is a stepping stone, from the lyrical, gentle, genre-agnostic electronica of Open Door, to Maggie’s own rounded and angelic take on acid-house. Her debut EP Open Door was “clean and angelic” according to Uproxx, “soothing, sweet, marvelously refreshing” by New Retro Wave, and “a glimpse into a kinder, more gentle future” by Queen City Sounds and Art. Her follow-up EP, At the Seams is a gleaming example of an artist on her way, a sonic Bildungsroman, if you will. A work of searching, and in many moments, finding.

The EP showcases six dance-floor-friendly, cross genre tracks, each with a signature sound. Opening track Don’t Call Me Back features salty lyrics, muted Rhodes atop gritty and distorted bongo loops. The second track, Smile, is the first hint at a more dance-floor focused future for Sky Civilian. Hers is hollow and melancholic, with drooping synths propped-up by a blunt kick and a de-facto acid riff. 

The most sure-footed moment in the EP comes with the track Otherworld, which features fat loops, a sparkling acid backdrop and seraphic, beckoning vocals. This moment of levity is abruptly ended by Where is that Good Energy Lurking, with its caustic percussion and bed of crackling orchestral strings underneath clear-as-day brass. Closing track Lullaby is sweet but not sleepy, at 140 bmp, with swinging sawtooth synths, cowbells, and stuttering, confessional vocals. 

Maggie’s cinematic, synth-heavy style emerged after a decade of orchestral French horn playing and classical studies. She combines this brass-inspired, synth-forward approach with her weightless, almost-whispered vocals, and dance-floor ready beats. The melding of influences present in her work make Maggie a fresh and promising new artist in the electronic music scene, an artist we hope to hear more from for many years to come.
