whats wrong with this track? its one of my most favorite tracks of all the time but in traktor the beat drops always out of sync... tried to fix he grid for hours but it does not help :( this is my last hope/resort to get the problem solved :(

Directed by Joseph Burgess, “The Orchid” is a stunning entry into Ákadóttir’s extensive catalogue and marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. The song, produced by Ákadóttir and Joshua Wilkinson and mixed by Shahzad Ismaily, is anchored by Ákadóttir’s swirling vocals over a wealth of synths.


As a 14 year old in Reykjavik, Ákadóttir began her musical career, exploring the vast universe of experimental music while retaining a massive heart at her core. Over the past 12 years, Ákadóttir has released 12 records, including as a member of Pascal Pinon and Samaris, collaborated with renowned artists Ólafur Arnalds and Damien Rice, scored the award-winning Icelandic film Backyard Village, and garnered fans across the world – including Björk, who cites Ákadóttir as an inspiration. Following 2017’s Brazil, her first record as JFDR, Ákadóttir returned with 2020’s New Dreams, “very haunting, electro-pop music, that’s very subtle, very inward looking” (NPR Music) and “the kind of album that might give you space to reach your own small revelations” (Stereogum). Each line from 'The Orchid' carries a hushed intimacy: “One secret away from // One promise away from // One dream a- // One kiss away from life // From a life, from another life, from another life, you know, you know.”  Of the track, Ákadóttir says, “​​I call all my songs orchids. I am obsessed with the flower. It’s a very cunning flower, its beauty has led it to become the most popular plant or flower in the world. It symbolizes (among other things) fertility, and I was thinking a lot about rebirth and a new beginning. Fertility, creativity, beauty and mystery are all embodied by the orchid.”

The first time I heard the name Sweetlight was when I was Djing with Ivan Smagghe and he played this insane trance-rave-bomb and I got acid flashbacks from 94 and ran up to the booth and asked what is that and he said (as if I was the last guy on the planet to find out)....."it's called ABUSATOR". The 2manydjs did an edit, and over the next year, that Sweetlight record was an anthem that we all played EVERYWHERE, one of those records that never let's you down, one of those tracks that makes your job as a DJ very easy. So good it makes you lazy.

Then last year at Sonar, I went to hear them play live, and right before their set I met them, and met Julien and he gave me a CD with some new stuff on it. By ACCIDENT, he gave me a CDR with all his personal stuff as well....and I fell madly in love with one of those songs.....and now after a worldwide legal battle, hundreds of emails, a million rocked parties and a few broken hearts, I am very proud to present "Le Grand Sommeil"

I don't know so much about him, but French people tell me Etienne Daho is a big deal.....and this track is a rave-trance-poptravaganze featuring a big chunk of a famous Daho song. Now I know a lot of you don't like trance or pop or French people....BUT trust me...this is magic. I have been playing it last in my sets all year and it is pure modern trance romance......it is the future and the past all rolled up into one.

And then, just when you are reduced to tears of joy on the dance floor....the b-side brings a gorgeous guitar driven late night New Order lite love-jam to ease you down gently

I liked this record so much, I re-launched my label for it.

1) FPU - Crockett's Theme / Seven Of Nine:

already a decade old, but these tracks still have not really been bettered when it comes to the 80's electro-techno revival of the early 00s. At the time, i was so in love with them, and they really helped Turbo grow at a critical time. Peter Benisch was a thoughtful, talented producer, and i loved all his music.

2) Martini Bros - The Biggest Fan (Blackstrobe Remix)

i remember this being one of my favorites, and a record that really marked Turbo "coming out" internationally. The original was amazing, but Blackstrobe just nailed a remix that perfectly summed up the feelings and the mood of the time. Fun, playful, vocal..... and got Ivan Smagghe on our label!!! A definitive Turbo record.

3) ZZT - Lower State of Consciousness

i tried to avoid my own records, but the fact is that this is just a ridiculously dope record: genuinely weird, undeniably powerful, and not easy to duplicate (i know, ive tried). I also like records that capture a new feeling or a new relationship, and this was the SOUND of me and Zombie Nation getting in studio for the first time. I think its one of the best we have released. yes, i am biased.

4) Panash - Jack 2 Jack (Jesper Dahlback Remix)

this is a classic Turbo formula: find an old record that you felt was underated from your personal collection, aquire the rights, and get a master like Dahlback to remix it to perfection. The early years of Turbo would never have been the same without Jesper, and this was one of the first tracks that got us global cred.

5) Moby - I Like To Move In Here (Proxy Remix)

first off, having a big international name like Moby on the label felt legit, but thats not why i chose this. I picked it cuz for many years Proxy was THE go-to guy for total nu-jack-rave mastery. Yes, "Raven" was bigger, but i always felt this remix was incredible, with a deep and unique understanding of techno-funk. still sick. always dope. he still has never been beat.

6) Clouds - Consciousness

of the techno renaissance era tracks of the past few years, this one stands out for two reasons: first, because its a truly special techno anthem, and i think arguably the best techno record we ever released. second, because it marked a continued commitment to an artist and their development: Clouds were my fave from day one, but they just got better and better, and worked closely with me and my brother......and that feels like REAL label progress.

Turbo Recordings was founded by Tiga in Montreal back in 1998.
