Turbo Sonidero: Club Chai Radar Radio Mix

A Sonidero is a sound system that plays parties, weddings, family events, etc. on the streets of Mexico a tradition that started back in the early 1960's. Sonideros were a simple and cheap alternative to hiring a full music band that were expensive for people that didn't have the resources to hire these bands.

When Cumbia music records arrived to Mexico from Colombia, Sonideros began lowering the pitch/tempo, add effects and emphasize the bass of those Colombian records. In the 1970's cumbia bands started forming in Mexico City that would imitate the Sonidero Cumbia style and this style is called Cumbia Sonidera.

This is a collection of Cumbia Sonidera tracks from Mexico all in vinyl records. Some of the bands featured on this mix are Super Grupo Colombia, Los Parranderos de Colombia, Los Llamadores de Cartagena, Organizacion Santa Martha, Los Angeles Azules, Grupo Curramba, Costa Negra, Los Templarios, etc. 

In the tradition of the Sonidero there is no track list cause a sonidero never gives out his secrets.

Keeping with the nostalgic vibes for the lockdown West Coast Mexican Cumbia don Turbo Sonidero digs in his crates for a strictly vinyl selection 'Discos de Mi Padres' in homage to his childhood thinking about family parties and holidays the records that used to get played at these gatherings, Nearly 30 tracks of Cumbia, Mambo, Salsa, Boleros including hits from the legends Beny Moré, Perez Prado, Celia Cruz, Billo's Caracas Boys and Sonora Satanera. 

One half of Kumbia Obscura Turbo Sonidero is music producer hailing from San Jose, CA who blends Rap/Hip-Hop with Mexican Cumbia Sonidera to create a new sound he calls “Tumbia”. In 2010, he moved for a few years to his fathers hometown in Puebla, Mexico to immerse in the Cumbia Sonidera Culture. While in Mexico, he played and toured all over the country.
