Having recently relocated to Vancouver in the name of continuing our rhythmic voyage, we at XVI are pleased to bring you the first offering from London-based beatsmith "Munro". First up is BYOG (Crown Heights), a summery hip hop infused , uptempo head nodder. Featuring an abstract but undeniably addictive baseline, and driving, crisp drum pattern, completed with rich golden analogue textures  . On the flip side, SIBWIR is a deep, slow-mo chugger. It's uplifting chord pattern and spine tingling vocals provide an absolute summertime treat, perfect for hazy beach sessions.

Monologues boss Ben Gomori has found acclaim far and wide with his official edits of African gems for labels like Sterns Music and Analog Africa (for artists including Orchestra Baobab, Amadou Balake, Oby Onyioha). Here he rounds up four of his reworks of tasty tracks from artists across the Afro-Caribbean spectrum on four edits licensed from the good folk at Mr. Bongo, Soundway Records and Analog Africa.

South African legends Marumo's joyous 'Khomo Tsaka Deile Kae' gets a good juicing, full of triumphant energy, while Black Truth Band's infectious 'Umbala' is stripped back to a slinky, bumping disco groove. An exuberant slice of 1980s Camerooon comes from Emmanuel Kahe Et Jeanette Kemogne on 'Ye Medjuie', where rousing trumpet refrains meet undulating bass funk. Peter Britto's gorgeous lo-fi soca anthem 'I Want Your Love' rounds off the package, its sweet melancholy given an extra bit of energy for maximum dancefloor effect.

Brooklyn's Let's Play House keeps building momentum with its second release of 2012. This time, label heads Jacques Renault, Nik Mercer, and James Friedman have teamed up with a pair of artists shrouded in mystery—the Dead Rose Music Company—to put out an EP featuring four songs that confound definition... 


The Four Songs EP is a collection of tracks that aim to be cinematic in their production approach: these are epic mixes meant to stand the test of time, fueled by huge drops, warm, syrupy bass lines, and ear-tickling effects. While the four songs are technically edits, Dead Rose have left their inimitable fingerprints all over them. Each tune has the air and ambiance of a groove you got into at a party, but can't remember fully the morning after; they're visceral and almost dreamy, like the jumbled recollections of last night's disco fading in and out of strobe-lit smoke on the dancefloor.

Crashing onto Paper Disco with a razzle, a dazzle and a heavy dosage of funking brilliance is Anoraak with his Fire Inside E.P. which goes to show that disco well & truly does not suck!

Title track is a real chuggy groove workout with some serious Bernie Edwards style bass alongside funky as heck piano stabs, disco strings (of course!), a conga workout and a great vocal from Lauren Turk which tie this one up nicely!

Up To You follows suit almost like a continuation of the story with another stomping bass line leading the charge and dips into the ‘disco house camp’ with a snazzy vocal sample, rolling percussion and spacey chords all along for the ride. Dance floor tackle!

The man, the machine, the emperor….Emperor Machine is back with us at Paper for this release and he gives Fire Inside a stretched out ‘Maxi edit’ with extended scenarios, space dub delays, tension builds & lots more in that magical way that only he can.
