LA was with theLIFT Jeremy Sole, Jonathan Rudnick, Wiseacre, Eduardo Castillo, Pablo Sanchez, Balkan Brass Band & many wonderful people who've been supportive of both TOTH & theLIFT for many years! Calling all record diggers, music nerds and treasure hunters! Captain Planet has cooked up a musical egg hunt specifically designed for you, with multiple prize packages available to win. As a way to celebrate the many vintage musical inspirations from around the world that helped shape his trademark "gumbo funk" sound, the Captain cooked up a 60min megamix featuring beloved records as well as some selections from his recent "Sounds Like Home" full-length. Nickodemus and the Turntables on the Hudson crew return for Volume 10 of the long running compilation series, showcasing the eclecticism of the infamous, now worldwide party. Entitled “Uptown Downtown”, this compilation CD paints a picture of the dancefloor from the beginning to the end of the night at TOTH’s NYC Summer 2015.  Deeper, electronic house vibes are represented by the likes of Bonobo, Claptone and Alex Barck, while the Latin and Afrobeat sound is of course heavily represented through tunes from Captain Planet, Quantic, Alsarah & The Nubatones, Novalima, Chancha Via Circuito, Jose Marquez and more.

1)     Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection.

I’ve started collecting records fifteen years ago and, with the passing years, as my addiction to buying records grew, my collection got bigger, counting now about 1500 singles/LPs and somewhere between 500 and 1000  45/7's. Although in the beginning I bought only hip-hop albums and singles and a few funk and jazz records for the breaks, now I collect old (and newly made) organic music from different parts of the world; I suppose it’s my way of discovering various cultures. 
 
2) 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7". Can you tell us a bit about what you love about the format.

Of course. I like it because it’s very DJ friendly: eighty 12’’ records weigh a lot more than the same amount of 45/7 records. Plus, these records usually have one song per side which makes them very easy to sort through.
 
3) One hour of vinyl goodness... can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix?

Well, all I can say is that I threw in mostly old rhythm & blues songs, infused with an exotic/latin twist, together with some classic northern soul tunes, but also a few fresh tracks in the beginning. I like to let the songs create the story of the mix.

4) Where can people catch you / listen to your music? 

You can find me spinning records at different venues mainly in Bucharest and around the country. Together with my friends I started Vinyl, Rum, Tapas & Wine – a series of parties with the main objective to bring back vinyl as the main ingredient for social gatherings.

Originally concealed in the credits of the record covers under the heading "composition and production", Guts secured his fame as a beatmaker by trimming the soundtrack of Alliance Ethnik, Big Red or the Svinkels. In solo since 2007 and his album "Le Bienheureux"(Was On Records), he then expanded his musical palette with "Freedom", a darker but also more released record released on his own label Pura Vida. Exiled in Ibiza, it is from his Balearic Island that he will publish in 2011 "Paradise For All", on the label which is still to this day, Heavenly Sweetness. Since 2013, he has concocted with his accomplice Mambo, the cult compilations Beach Diggin', dedicated to the discovery of rare and sunny galettes.

Guts is a regular at Goulash Disko Festival, and he likes to invite members of his musical family to join the show, and bring his own magic to the Goulash blend.

One of my favorite festivals in the World is the Radio Meuh Circus Festival nestled in the small ski village of Clusaz in the French Alps. It was quite an honor & excitement to play an entire night start to finish to kick off the 2019 festival with my partner in Turntables on the Hudson sound system, Nappy G on percussion. Although his drum head broke in the middle of the night, he managed to make magic & keep the rhythms flowing till the end freestyle with me on the CDJ's making beats, him rocking the broken congas & a beautiful charged up crowd keeping the energy very high! We get down anywhere anytime full of passion & heart & if you can imagine this very packed crowd sweating all up on top of each other, dancing, smiling, grinding, drinking... you get the idea of a Radio Meuh, Turntables on the Hudson, Alps, Nile, Ramblas, Danube, Ipanema, Caribbean vibes! Hope you enjoy this mix & we meet again on a dance-floor soon. Nickodemus
