This is the Song Academy song! Written by the Song Academy Team.  We want all young people to 'Sing It Out!' 

Founded 13 years ago, Song Academy was built for young creators aged 8-18. Our mission is to help every child, from all backgrounds, find their voice and find their tribe, through writing their own original songs at a formative time of their life. Our unique focus on the craft of songwriting, creating lyrics and music, enables young people to express themselves powerfully and be heard. Song Academy nurtures the next generation of creative leaders (young writers, artists, musicians, producers & creative thinkers) who will be shaping the future. We run songwriting clubs, holiday workshops, song feedback reports, birthday parties, bespoke songwriting sessions and The Young Songwriter competition.

What difference is Song Academy making? Song Academy is a force for good, nurturing the next generation of creative leaders. Inspiring young people to express themselves and share their songs is having a positive impact on their well-being, self-belief, self-esteem, confidence, creativity, social skills and motivation to achieve their full potential.

Sing It Out

“What Dreams Are Made Of” is the debut track from Twayn.  It combines Grace’s songwriting and lead vocals with Hannah’s arrangement and backing vocals.  The song describes the sadness of falling in love with someone who will sadly never reciprocate the feeling.  It goes on to explain how you learn to get over them once you realise it’s impossible for you to be together.

EXPRESS YOURSELF!
Now more than ever, young people need opportunities to express themselves. Song Academy has revolved around the tagline 'Express Yourself' since being founded 12 years ago, so writing a song called ‘Express Yourself' felt like a good way to empower young people to speak up, express themselves, believe in themselves and connect with their generation to share what's important to them and what future they want in their interconnected new world.

Proceeds from 'Express Yourself' will be donated to Young Minds, the UK's leading charity fighting for children and young people's mental health.

As Fraser T Smith (Songwriter, Producer and Song Academy Young Songwriter 2021 judge) says “With so much going on in the world, it’s never been more vital for young people to be able to channel their energy and emotions into something positive, which is what The Young Songwriter competition encourages and facilitates through songwriting. Every young person has something to say, a story to tell, or a message to share – that’s why Song Academy is so important to our community.”

The lyrics and melodies of "Express Yourself' were written by several members of the Song Academy community and fine tuned by some of the Song Academy young ambassadors and Song Academy team.

Express Yourself by Song Academy

Twayn are twins, Hannah and Grace, who were born and raised in the North East of England.  They have always loved music and Grace has been song writing since she could string words together!  They have sung in choirs and played piano since primary school.  Grace’s passion has always been singing and her voice is classically trained, though pop is where her heart is.  At the beginning of the Covid pandemic the girls received a keyboard and started recording their own music as a lockdown project.  Hannah focussed her attention on instrumentation and production, which she taught herself from scratch, also providing backing vocals to Grace’s lyrics and lead vocals.  At the time, this was more of a solo venture for Grace, supported by her twin.  By the end of summer 2021, then still only 16, the single “sweet 16”, was debuted under the name GRACE, hotly followed by an EP, “pity party”, which centred around the challenges faced around friendships, relationships, and peer pressures.

At the end of 2021 the twins decided to formalise working together and the duo, Twayn, was created (@twayntwins). “What Dreams Are Made Of”, their debut single singing together under the name Twayn, was launched in January 2021.
