"The Banshee EP was one of the last projects we worked on together in Bristol before moving to live elsewhere. After playing 'Banshee' across 2019 the track had picked up some interest and as our time in Bristol came to an end, we sat down to write three accompanying tracks that celebrated the last few years making music there.

After only having the tracks for a few months, lockdown hit and we never really had a chance to play the rest of the EP out to an audience, so we are excited to finally share these tracks at a time when shows are beginning to look possible again."

lots of reverse reverb here because reverse reverb is beautiful and psychic (as all the best people are) and i love it

quite pleased with the drums: no pre-made beats this time lads!!

the riffs here i chanced upon when i was 16. feels good to polish up the back catalogue

the chordal part (which is like 1-5-7 chords (power chords!) and then 1-5-9 chords) is really inspired by the wipers, who i was very into at that age, esp 'over the edge' which is a truly fantastic song. absolutely killer rhythm guitar: he plays the chords and the melody both at the same time but all in downstrokes, like he's got neil young's left hand and johnny ramone's right hand

the main instrument here is a sampler with my sister's singing voice loaded into it. i just got her to sing a steady note into my microphone like two years ago and i still use it on most of my tracks now. see also: ag cook's 'beautiful' 

the bits of speech at like 2:50 are sampled from such youtube classics as 'plan to get rat out of the house' and 'marriage story but it's mickey mouse and goofy'

also i turned my laptop's cursor turquoise midway through making this track, which i feel was invaluable to its creation 

art is from the sam raimi film 'drag me to hell' which i haven't seen and it ain't on the list either

i started cavalier as a dumb kid with no expectation that i could have a serious career in music; you all showed me that it was possible. i'm extremely grateful and lucky

because i started this 7-8 years ago, i’ve learned and grown A LOT both as an artist and a a person so i think it’s only right that i shed skin now. i’ve been wanting to do this for years and i’m really excited for what’s next :)
