In this bonus episode of the first season of the Twin Peaks Tattoo Podcast, I get to talk with my amazingly brilliant friend and colleague Dr. Carmen Martines. We discuss the magic of fairy tales and the art of storytelling through body ink. She talks about how tattoos can commemorate a loss, capture a moment, transform a time in our life. How they are spiritual processes and become armor that protect and empower us. 

We are so lucky to have Dr. Martines share her dissertation research with us. She has a PhD in Transformative Studies and her dissertation, The Transformative Tattoo: What Can Healing from Trauma Look Like? focuses on using tattoos as a transformational tool to reclaim and re-author the body after sexual abuse trauma. 

As a psychotherapist she brings tattoo discussions into her clinical work. While she doesn’t have a Twin Peaks tattoo per say, we talk about the cultural significance of the show and all its' fairy tale wonder. Along with stories of love, joy and power, a heads up that this episode does also include conversations about sexual trauma, addiction and recovery.

Twin Peaks Tattoo Podcast S2 Episode 4: Andy Bentley

In this month’s episode of the Twin Peaks Tattoo Podcast, I talk with the fantastic Katie Johnston. We discuss her Neo Traditional tattoo, her love of Audrey Horne and Sherilynn Fenn and what Twin Peaks means to her now. We chat about synchronicities and she told me how her tattoo artist just happened to be visiting North Bend right after her consult appointment, and was able to bring back inspiration from his trip to work into designing her half sleeve. After our recording she told me even more synchronistic moments, like how she had doubts about getting her Twin Peaks tattoo and then heard an owl right at that moment and how she drove by streets one of which was named Leland, the other Palmer. Katie is a 31-year-old Texas educator and breast cancer warrior. She recently got engaged to Matt (a somewhat new member of the TP fam), who proposed to her at Spooky Empire with the help of Sherilyn Fenn! She’s been infatuated with the Twin Peaks universe for the last 13+ years, as it has appeared in the highs and lows of her life (sometimes in a serendipitous manner). In this months episode of the Twin Peaks Tattoo Podcast, I had the honor to speak to the incredible Matt Edgin. After Lynch’s passing, Matt got an amazing Lynch memorial tattoo. I saw a pic online and it just felt right to contact him for this episode. Losing Lynch had me also thinking a lot about Katie, Matt’s wife, who many of us knew so well. She was on the pod last season. Matt and I talked about the brilliance of Katie, the magic of the show we all love, and of course we honored Lynch together. We talked about about electricity and music in the show and how it connects him to Katie and to the TP universe in a bigger way. One of the best parts of our talk, is how he answers the question who he would play in Twin Peaks if there was a Season 4. Its a wonderfully weird and macrabre answer. Scott is a true hardworking and steadfast Taurus with bull-like unafraid energy which we have seen in all the amazing TP panels he has hosted over the years and interviews he has conducted. His Harold Stay In Play In was so incredible and so organized, and so bold and such medicine I needed during Covid. His unending contributions to the TP community I will forever be grateful for. Also I know he will hate that I said all of those compliments and try to deflect them with humor. This is also why we love him.

BONUS EPISODE: Scott Ryan on his new book Always Music in the Air: The Sounds of Twin Peaks

In this months episode of the Twin Peaks Tattoo podcast I talk to Scott Boundy, who had no problem at all with this “Do you like Twin Peaks?" Dating conundrum. In fact, what brought him and his partner together was their common love of TP. They met on a FB group called “Invitation to Love,” how cute is that? Scott was single and had just joined as a joke. The rest is history! He has been with his girlfriend Michelle ever since. 
It's Valentines day and despite the huge loss we all experienced last month, this episode helps us remember the power of love, connection and community. Lynch and Frost brought Scott and Michelle together. The show is the reason so many of us have found each other over the years. As we remember and celebrate Lynch and his work, this is also a moment to celebrate the love in our amazing fandom. 

Scott Boundy is from Miami, moved to Los Angeles and loves exploring the Pacific Northwest with his girlfriend. We bonded over his TP transitional objects like filming location pics and his Showtime For Your Consideration Season 3 boxset. My favorite part of our interview was when he just got a water from the fridge and started drinking it while we were recording-it was adorable and also let me know there was a feeling of comfort between all of us, Michelle included, who came in to share from time to time in the background. It felt like I got to visit their house and glimpse into this sweet life they have made together.

We talked WHILE I was getting Waldo tattooed on me. Its pretty incredible how she can talk and tat at the same time. Twin Peaks Tattoo Podcast Season 3 Episode 4: Kim Stace Thomas

In this month’s second episode of the Twin Peaks Tattoo podcast, I interview Chris Mathews, another huge fan of the opening credits infamous bird. I didn’t know Chris before our talk, he reached out to me and shared his history with the show and with the fan community and I was excited to meet him. We recorded our episode several years ago, sorry it took so so so long to post Chris! We discuss his love of the show, his various TP tats including one that I adore that I got to finally see in person at the Real Twin Peaks Day event in 2022. We talk about his love of the opening sequence bird that he lovingly refers to as Flappy and how Flappy has taken off in his life and creative endeavors.  
	
From an early age Chris has been driven by creativity and a bold extrovert. Starting with his first on stage lead at age 6, to joining a professional boys choir at 11, to writing and directing his first play as a college senior, he has hungered to try new things. Since 1981, he has dipped his toes into music, stand up comedy, television, and film, not to forget his lifelong love of live theater. But it wasn't until his discovery of Twin Peaks that he decided to get a tattoo. This turned into more and more TP tats! I get it Chris, me too. 
	
He also has tat tributes to both his children and a self designed logo of DAMN! (Dramatists and Actors Meeting Now!) a theater group he founded in 1996.
