Alinka and Shaun J. Wright present the re-launch of their brainchild Twirl. The label is a homage to the classic Chicago house sound with a fresh, forward-thinking attitude.
Alinka has house music in her marrow, immersing herself in the sounds of Cajmere and DJ Funk not long after arriving in Chicago as a Jewish refugee from Kyiv, Ukraine. Later she’d spend almost a decade as a resident at the city’s legendary Smart Bar, before meeting former Hercules & Love Affair vocalist Wright in 2012. The pair would become muses, inspiring one another both musically and spiritually, they’d launch the Twirl parties and label in 2014, a home for their own creations, alongside music from Spencer Parker, Virginia, LA-4A and Kim Ann Foxman.
July 2023 marks the launch of Twirl 2.0 with Alinka’s transcendent ‘Day Dreamer’ EP. The three-track work was written in the aftermath of the death of her grandmother, who helped to raised her, while also coming to terms with the escalation of the war in Ukraine. In creating the EP, she found a sense of comfort and healing from the grief that was engulfing her:
“I wanted to write tracks for the dancefloor that are timeless and channel all the classics I fell in love with in my youth that still hit me the same way today. I wanted to create music that sounds timeless because that’s what Chicago House is to me, my favourite tracks still sound as fresh as they did when I first heard them. That music always brought me a lot of joy and I have so many happy memories surrounding it and Chicago, so when I sat down and started writing that’s what came out, because I think that’s what I needed to channel to feel better.” – Alinka
The trio of jams are immersive celebrations of dancefloor joy. The title track is a crisp roller that hits with an addictive synth riff and a delicious groove. ‘Learning to Fly’ is a nostalgia rich, classic-in-the-making, soaked in euphoria and punchy drums. ‘Just A Feeling’ is equal parts vibe-heavy and fun, as a big bouncy bassline, pairs masterfully with a timeless chord sequence.

Born and raised in the industrial metropolis called Ruhrgebiet in West Germany, Parallx grew up in a family of musicians.

When young Parallx performed minor drum and samba acts at a small festival in the middle of Germany at the age of eight, his rhythmic obsession caught a hold of him fueling his drive for musical composition till present day. 

After completing Primary School he found his new home in Berlin where he was heavily influenced by the techno, house and art scene. During his Interface-Design studies, he completed a course called “musical interfaces”, designed and built his own MIDI controller called "Sound Radar”, and continued to integrate his style into the world of music production.

Parallx is constantly in pursuit of selfexpression, regardless of whether its music or visual art. Equipped with enormous energy and willpower, he is always hunting for new inspirations and new ways to improve his music.

Twirl returns with a luscious offering from Barcelona’s nightlife stalwart Baldo, featuring the inimitable (and Twirl staple) Josh Caffe. The duo pair up for ‘Mind Games’, a classic Chicago style house burner reminiscent of the great Finger’s, Inc. 
The Original Mix of ‘Mind Games’ whirls and enraptures with its smooth percussive elements, slick pads, and well-paced arrangement. Caffe’s lush vocals heighten the seduction as he weaves nimbly around the track with his sultry timbre. 
The Breaks Mix ventures into the mystique of the rave, adding more muscular drums and bringing the beefy bassline to the forefront. Caffe’s vocals still hold firmly in the center, winding flirtatiously around the pumping track. If the Original Mix is suitable to bring you into the night, the Breaks Version is perfect for diving further into its depths.
Longtime Twirl family member Hannah Holland flips the track into a pulsating banger for her remix. With chopped up vocals, a driving acid bassline, jackin’ percussion, and twisted pads from the Original Mix, Holland creates a monster of a track that deftly straddles the line between house and techno.
Industry veteran The Checkup rounds out the package with his energetic, house stomper of a remix. Caffe’s vocals are highlighted, adding a punchier, stuttering kick, extrapolated synth pads and stabbing, moody organ. It is a delightful turn that’s sure to ignite the finest of dancefloors.

Alinka Mixtape for KALTBLUT Magazine

A move from her birthplace of Kiev to Chicago, where she grew up, gave DJ and producer Alinka her first taste of house music. Getting her early education from radio shows like Sonic Boom and tracks from local heroes like Cajmere and DJ Funk, she soon became completely engrossed in the dance music scene, leading her to start DJing herself and begin taking on odd jobs at local parties in the city. 

In 2001 she was invited by Justin Long to be a resident at his .Dotbleep party at the legendary Smartbar, where she went on to hold a residency for a decade. Her movements in production came after following a chance meeting with Hercules vs Love Affair vocalist Shaun J. Wright, now her best friend, which led to the pair launching their record label and party Twirl. This would become a home for a lengthy string of collaborative releases, as well as several records via the likes of Crosstown Rebels and Classic. 

Earlier this year, from her now homebase of Berlin, Alinka launched a new label called Fantasy Life with an inaugural EP of infectious house cuts; a solid pre-cursor for what's to come next on the imprint.
