Greetings ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the first in a series of podcasts which aim to take you on a journey through some of the many diverse sounds that Dubstep has to offer. The name of the podcast...is Two Faced!!

Two Faced is 3 individuals from Sydney, Australia who are regulars in the Sydney Dubstep scene. They operate under the surname-based-monikers of Gielis, Beetee and Hellmore. Originating from completely different social circles, all of them are avid vinyl junkies who have come together, united by their passion for bass at Sydney's (now-defunct) monthly club night VOID which continues to maintain its reputation as the guiding light for Sydney Dubstep.

These 3 individuals have been keeping each other on their toes though a flow of consistent mixtapes chronicling their recent purchases and showcasing the blends of tunes they've unlocked while cooped up in their bedrooms, mixing solo till the wee hours of the morning.

With such petty competition constantly brewing among them, the idea was spawned to combine their efforts into a collective with the intention to create a series of themed mixes concentrating not on the heaviest, most face-melting track selection, but bringing to the table their perfected tune combinations. These blends contained within are simply not made available to the public, known only to the DJs who posses the foresight to create them. These podcasts are an attempt to display to the masses what can be accomplished through hunting DubstepForum, mining the tracklistings of podcasts by the likes of Youngsta and N-Type, spending exorbitant amounts of money on Chemical and Discogs, and practicing like nothing else...sacrificing many a hot meal simply to continue the mix.

For our inaugural podcast, mixing duties have been passed to the man Gielis. While not only a badman on the 1's and 2's, he is also the man responsible for the super-fly artwork you see above. For Gielis the sound of Dubstep was redefined with the release of SWAMP 81's debut “One Of Us” by Kryptic Minds.

“When I heard 'One Of Us' I realised there was this whole other thing going on. I gave up looking for bangers and began to delve deeper into the sound. For me, that was the turning point.”

Since then his primary musical diet has been the eyes down half-step darkside of Dubstep. Blackbox, DMZ, Osiris…these are the labels catering to this audience. With this in mind there is no one better to kick off:

Chapter 001: Tales From The Krypt *CLIP*

Welcome to the second installment in the Two Faced Podcast series. For Pt. 2 we present a look into one of the most interesting and forward thinking labels to have sprung onto the scene in recent times. We're talking of course about Bok Bok's Night Slugs!!

Overflowing with new talent, this diamond in the rough has been turning heads across an array of genres for just over a year. Since its inception in January 2010, NS has developed a strong and devoted following with releases by the likes of Egyptrixx, Mosca, Girl Unit, Pearson Sound aka Ramadanman. (If you've no clue about any of the artists mentioned...you are obligated to download the mix below!!)

While it is virtually impossible to pin down the Night Slugs sound, the defining characteristics are heavy manipulation of synths, vocal samples and an undeniable low end that destroy's every decent system their tunes are played through.

Mixing duties for this leg have been assigned to the man Beetee. Introduced to the sound of dubstep in April 2008 when he attended VOID...headlined by SCUBA. After becomming a convert to the sound, he began purchasing records in dribs and drabs, but it has been in the past 18 months that the vinyl addiction has taken a serious hold!!

Initially a sceptic when he was introduced to the 808 driven sound which features so heavily in the NS catalogue, he ate his words when he heard the release of “That Mystic EP” by Kingdom, spacifically the track "Bust Broke". The deceptively simple tune made him completely reassess his standing on this emerging sound and quickly became a convert and furiously began buying up all NS releases, incorporating them flawlessly into his repertoire.

The mix is draws heavily from the Night Slugs roster, displaying the immense diversity which the label has become known for. Two Faced Podcasts is proud to return with the third installment in the series. In Chapter 1 we traversed the deep, dark, & minimal sounds from the Kryptic Minds camp. Chapter 2 saw our attention turn to the label known as Night Slugs, and with Chapter 3 we aim to tackle a label that speaks for itself…

Started by in 2009 by Loefah…the creator of “Root”, “Mud”, “Yours” and “Disco Rekah”.

Releases by Kryptic Minds, The Bug, Skream, Addison Groove (Headhunter), Ramadanman, Pinch, Boddika and Faulty DL.

Every release is “bag-on-sight”. Every 12’’ an essential addition to anyone’s collection. One of a few elite labels truly bringing new sounds to the table.

To compose a mix that demonstrates SWAMP 81s potency is one mean feat, so this mix aims not to simply showcase the tunes released on SWAMP, but to explore the different sounds and moods created by the artists selected for the SWAMP roster, with a few other gems thrown in for good measure.

Bristol, England, UK. For years this city has nurtured a rich underground scene. Home to urban grafitti artist 'Banksy' as well as a number of forward-thinking musicians and bands whose collective musical consciousness helped shape the 'Bristol Sound' during the 1990s, today the city still continues to maintain a strong relationship between music and art cultures. The urban scene here is characterised by an omnipresent sparseness and darkness influenced by the city's aesthetic and history. It is no surprise that this city is responsible for shaping many of the slow, bass driven sounds and genres we hear emerging from the UK today.

This mix collects 25 tracks from Bristol labels and resident Bristolians alike. Although it's not 8-Bit music in a strict technical sense, this unmistakable sound is a staple in electronic music sampling bringing an undeniable texture to any genre it's applied to, whether techno, grime or one of the many facets of dubstep (sometimes referred to as the 'purple sound').
