2007 - 12 - 09 Luigi Boccherini - Introduction And Fandango (take 2)

Recorded on a 1999 Bosendorfer 225 using a Zoom H2 recorder.

I made this recording for my dad's birthday.  It's always been one of his favorite pieces, and I learned it over the last few weeks when I decided to make a video with a slideshow of family photos set to this for his birthday gift.  I wasn't happy with the quality of my last recording and ended up doing a ton of tests to figure out the optimized settings and placement of my Zoom H2 recorder, and I also ended up buying a mic boom stand.  There are a few mistakes in my playing, but I was running out of time and patience  ;)

I also didn't have enough time for my tech to come tune the piano.  He is still planning to adjust the damper timings during his next visit, and there's a harsh high C that needs to be voiced down.  He would like me to get new hammers, but I had him do as much as he could with the existing ones and I'll get new hammers and wippens down the line.  I found that this piece really exposes any unevenness in the action and it's hard to play the left hand softly without getting ghost notes.  One plus of doing so many test takes was that I really learned the first few lines well and got better at playing them delicately!
