I saw Marley play the finest of warm up Jungle in SubClub with my Camouflage Cargo Pants on. I'm yet to meet him for a drink, or take a photo with him. Marley has championed dance floors including Strawberry Fields festival several years in a row , and Hopkins Creek , alongside Geelong underground deejay group Nomadic Rhythms .

A self proclaimed bassbin interrogator, Marley makes sure to test airwaves and car speakers in his regular slot on the ' B . P . M ' show for PBS 106 . 7FM.

Outside of the studio Marley navigates his way through expansive selections, doing justice to any sound that invokes body movement.

Tousist Radio Episode 10 comes from Hi-Vis, an artist based in Lower West Side Chicago, they run the Dreamtone label, as well as the Beyond / Below mix series. Their selections combine dub, ambient and house which creates a contemporary blend electronic, fuzz and deep rhythms. Iv'e found all their mixes to contain a constant theme of quality, patience, and beauty. This hour of music contains Pole, Best Available technology, Hoavi, amongst others.

‘For home use only’ is an anti-club social, a chance to get to know someone/something. A series of transmissions purely dedicated to exploring the other side.

Here we are again (and again), the cold sets in, the nights are darker and our thoughts drift to the warmer dreams in every shape and form. For the next 133 minutes, we learn how to light one's own fire, through the perfect blend of escapism and imagination. Our sonic guide for the occasion is Tousist, aka Harry, an Irish ex-pat who understands musical coherence,  in a way that only comes along once every 100 years. 

I always struggle to put Tousist’ abilities into words, his musical vitality really speaks for itself, but, I’ll give it a shot. A humble being, with an understated approach to melodies across every genre.  His methodical madness explodes into all his mixes and productions. From dub to techno, he has every single base covered. Ever since listening to his mix for passing notes (link below), I have been paying close attention to everything he does, including his own show on DDR and his plethora of other mixes on offer. He is definitely someone to watch. 

This mix really pushes the boundaries of what ’home’ is, designed almost architecturally, with a solid foundation in rhythm, it allows you to shift your perceptions of some dangerous places you wouldn’t usually call home. Perfectly tied into winter through the depth of the melancholy undertones, woven seamlessly with hopeful glimmers to produce this amazingly joyous story arch.  Every room in this ‘house’ brings form and function together in perfect harmony, different hallways leading to different worlds, biophilia and brutalism in sync, with a buffet of surrealism. Time for the tour.

Absent Back Again Shortly - Episode 1 - Heat Packs

Are we past it? No. Mid to late 30's, surround by the new age kick drums and psy leaning disco kids, people asking are we cops on dance floors, has time caught up with us, the knees are quaking, kids in the making, where to next, all the walls have caved in, only The Oracle and the troops remain in. Hand picked sessions of the future are meant to decrease our anxiety, sleepless nights no more, a new age? or a buried devotion?. 

I've known The Oracle for nearly 13 years. The first time I met him he kicked me out of his apartment. There has been many people he has influenced, motivated, quick pep talk at the front left, don't worry about it mate. If there is ever a problem you just book in to see The Oracle and he will tell you what to do, the right thing. Walk in to his house and he's just sitting there, he already knows the question before you ask, "get an uber bud."

I've shared many dance floors with the Oracle, but not as many as I would have liked. He is an educated mainstay on dance floors from Europe, to Naarm, to Japan, to Scandinavia. A cosmic traveller, a pirate, a therapist, his musical knowledge runs deep. We have contrasting music tastes but we often meet at certain points and this mix is hopefully one of those places. Since we've been closer I've been thinking about this mix.

Gaza is already among the world’s most densely populated areas and the UN has long described conditions there as “unliveable”. Egypt has so far rejected proposals to allow civilians safe passage into the Sinai and urged Palestinians to stay put. But if more than 2 million people should find themselves crammed into Gazan’s southern half, as Israel continues to bombard them, the pressure on Egypt to open Rafah crossing might become irresistible. A trickle of refugees could easily become a flood.

Prominent Israeli officials and commentators have anticipated exactly this scenario. Senior lawmaker Gideon Sa’ar, now part of the ruling coalition and a leading figure in Israel’s most popular party, declares that “Gaza must be smaller by the end of the war”. Giora Eiland, former head of Israel’s National Security Council, proposes that Gazans be instructed to “leave for Egypt or gather on the seashore” while Israel renders the territory “temporarily, or permanently, impossible to live in”. Former Israeli Ambassador to the US Danny Ayalon argues that “Gazans have large areas in the Sinai into which they can evacuate” and where the international community can “set up tent cities for them”. Energy Minister Israel Katz instructs “[a]ll the civilian population” in Gaza “to leave immediately”.

Influential commentator Arel Segal fantasises that, in a “moral world”, Israel would “exile all of Gaza to the Sinai”. Right-wing broadcaster Shimon Riklin enthuses that “we are getting closer to the moment when masses will completely abandon the Strip”. Likud MK Amit Halevy has called on Gaza residents to either turn against Hamas or “get out of Gaza” and urged a “crushing blow” that will make “400,000 refugees flee through the Rafah crossing”. And his fellow Likud parliamentarian, Ariel Kallner, looks forward to a second “Nakba”.

I Am Thugs And 17 Hour Shifts.

A special two hour guest mix from Irish born, Melbourne based producer and DJ, Tousist. Harry aka Tousist reached out to me in January, presenting a mix which touches on experimental, dubby and downtempo percussive sounds, with a common atmospheric thread throughout. All the things we love on Passing Notes, it was hard for me to ignore this phenomenal “cold call”. This is the first time I’ve welcomed a guest that was not known to me previously - but I couldn’t ignore the work that had gone in to creating this stunning mix. Digging a little deeper, Tousist has a long history within the electronic music community in Ireland, first as a raver, second throwing intimate parties of his namesake and now curating his resident radio show on Dublin Digital Radio - ddr. and letting his productions slowly seep out into the world through tracks featured on Cork/London based label ‘Department of Energy”.
